ProcedureEdit

  1. Register your catering business through the Uganda Registration Bureau. You can choose to register as a limited liability company (LLC) or other type of corporation, a sole proprietorship or a partnership.
  2. Once you have all your legal papers in place, Visit your Municipal council headquarters/division/city Authority near your location to start the Licence process.
  3. Pick the appropriate application form for the License, fill the form and submit the completed application form to Municipal council Authority/ Division offices where a catering trading license certificate is issued.
  4. Application for a catering Licence must be made in the name of a person or a corporation and submitted on a standard form. The application form must be submitted together with other required documents and the proposed layout plans of the catering services.
    • For premises in private buildings, applicants are also required to attach rent and tenancy agreement from the Land lord especially for the new business.
  5. Once you have completed to fill the application form. Pay the catering Licence fees depending on the location area grading before submitting your application to the Municipal Authorities for Verification.
  6. Once the application is received, authorities will verify the details and provide applicant with receipt. Keep it safe for future transaction. Authorities will inform about the successive steps.
  7. The Municipality Health Department and food control division shall conducts inspections to monitor the safety of the food premises before a Licence is issued to make sure that catering affirms to the food safety standards of Uganda.This is required for any business that prepares and serves food to the public.
  8. After all the formalities are successful, applicant will be informed to collect the Catering Licence. Collect the Licence from the Municipality authorities or division or city depending on the Location of your business.

Note:Grant or rejection of permission is sole discretion of authorities. Ensure that the food served by your catering business is safe for human consumption. To retain your catering license, you must purchase supplies from approved sources and comply with the Municipal requirements for food safety.

  • For new business - original certificate of registration (Business name)
  • Certificate of incorporation for a (Company)
  • Applicant should obtain clearance from Uganda Registration Services Bureau.
  • Original municipality receipt for the previous year indicating existing business
  • Original rent and tenancy agreement from the Land lord for the new business.
  • Original trading License for the previous year for already existing business.

EligibilityEdit

Any person carrying out business in Municipality/Division/Town/City/Kampala City Council Authority’s jurisdiction except those who are exempted under Section 8(2) of the Trade Licensing Act are eligible to obtain Trading license for catering service.

FeesEdit

The founder must pay the relevant license fee at the bank, as follows:
License Fee:

  • (a) Grade I - 225,000 Ugsh
  • (b) Grade II - 150,000 Ugsh
  • (c) Grade III - 90,000 Ugsh
  • (d) Grade IV - 60,000 Ugsh

Renewal Fee:

  • (a) Grade I - 225,000 Ugsh
  • (b) Grade II - 150,000 Ugsh
  • (c) Grade III - 90,000 Ugsh
  • (d) Grade IV - 60,000 Ugsh

  • List and Particulars of Shareholders;

  • Deed of Trust, as applicable
  • Information if the shareholder has ever been convicted of a criminal offence in Uganda or in any other country.
  • List and Particulars of Directors.
  • information if you have ever acquired a Licence and state the nature of the Licence, date issued and the Licence number

  • This catering license is not merely a license, on the contrary, it also serves as an approval by the authority and ensures the customers that the food of that particular catering affirms to the food safety standards of Uganda.
  • This Licence confirms your consumers that they are dining at the right place which adhered to all the safety standards.

Catering License can also be used as a means to attract customers to your catering restaurant.
