  1. To import Smartwatches in Uganda it is advisable that the importer use the services of a clearing agent who can facilitate the process of preparing the necessary Customs documents.
  2. Before engaging the clearing the agent the applicant should visit the Customs Department of the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) to begin the importation process. The address and contact information for the Uganda Revenue Authority and the Customs Department can be found in the “Office Locations & Contacts” of this page.   3. Upon visiting Customs Department the applicant should enquire on how to obtain a Obtain Certificate of Pre export verification of conformity (PVoC) and Certificate of Conformity.
  4. The customs officer will issue the applicant with a Pre export verification of conformity (PVoC) application form to fill and submit.
  5. Upon filling and submission the applicant will be required to pay for inspection charges for the smart watches. The cost varies depending on the consignment, negotiation and quotation received.
  6. After payment is made to the customs department a payment receipt will be issued to the applicant and inspections of the smart watches will be made by the customs officials.
  7. Upon successful inspection, the applicant will be issued with a Certificate of Conformity (CoC).
  8. At this point the applicant should now engage their preferred clearing agent. The applicant should ensure to provide all the importation documents to the clearing agent. A list of the required documents can be found in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  9. The clearing agent will ensure that all the required documentation are attached and submit it, on behalf of the applicant, to the Customs Services Department.
  10. With the assistance of the clearing agent the applicant is required to declare the smart watches they are importing in the customs system. The applicant will be required to fill an Import declaration form which the clearing agent will use to make entries into the customs system
  11. After the declaration the URA officials will determine the duties and tax payable on the imported goods. This is determined using the East African Community Common External Tariff
  12. After the importation tax to be paid is determined, the applicant should then proceed to pay the required importation tax to the Uganda Revenue Authority Office and present the payment receipt to the Customs department.
  13. The Customs Department will then check and inspect the goods for release.
  14. Verification and inspection will be done by the Customs Department and other interested regulatory bodies e.g. Uganda National Bureau Of Standards (UNBS) to determine the type, quantity and quality of smart watches imported .
  15. After successful verification and inspection of the smart watches the applicant will be issued with a release order by the UNBS and the Customs Department.
  16. With the release order the applicant can now collect the smart watches and transport them to their destination.

  • Charges vary depending on the cost of the smart watches, tonnage and cost of importation.

  • The certificates are valid for six months.
