HOW TO APPLY&

  1. As a first step, please inform to the local police of Uganda, registering the death with the civil register authority of Uganda and notifying the relatives and next of kin of the deceased back from his/her origin country
  2. Close relatives or next of kin inform local authorities back at the deceased home country, which in turn consult with Uganda’s High Commission or embassy in that particular country on how to proceed.
    OR
  3. The Notifier can visit the embassy of the home country of the deceased with all the required documents or sent the documents to the Embassy by express mail for authentication with a prepaid return envelope.
  4. This is followed by registration of death in the origin country or the home embassy and will then be issued a exporting deceased body permit
  5. The relatives check the travel insurance policy of the deceased to establish whether it caters for repatriation, if not there have to make arrangements on how to export the body
  6. If you opt to transport the remains through an airplane, the airline company will advise on the appropriate casket required
  7. If the funeral home is also responsible for freight of remains, they are advised to establish from the carrying airline and customs authorities any other documents or requirements they need.

BURIALS

  • A Signed letter of request for certification from a responsible person e.g. A relative, an employer etc.
  • The Passport of the deceased.
  • A Death certificate.
  • A Certificate of Embalmment.
  • A Burial permit from the local authority where the deceased person resided.
  • A certificate of no contagious diseases.<br>

CREMATIONS

  • Copy of deceased 's passport (Ugandan or other)
  • Copy of death certificate
  • Copy of cremation certificate
  • Letter to Embassy requesting for authentication of above documents.

  • Name and address of exporter
  • Details of the deceased
  • Cause and place of death
  • Country of origin of the deceased
  • Details of relative / next of kin in the country of origin
  • Transportation details (full flight or shipping details to the destination)
  • Details of the consignee (who is the funeral director or person responsible for collection of body at the destination airport,
  • Details of the intended place of rest.
  • Passport number of the deceased



Need for the DocumentEdit

  • Export body permit enables transferring a deceased body from the country of death to another country in most cases country of origin.

Information which might helpEdit

There are certain requirements for coffins if the body is to cremated

  • There must be no metal or plastic objects on the outside of the coffin;
  • There must be no funeral objects, or metal or plastic inside the coffin;
  • The coffin must display the name of the deceased;
  • Size requirements vary according to the crematoria concerned, so this should be checked beforehand.

Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit
