- Applicant for a temporary student pass should have acquired a place of study at an Institute of Higher Learning (Universities and colleges) in Uganda . You must enroll in any University or college for a study program for a shorter period of time to qualify for a student pass.
- All international students must apply for their student pass through the directorate of citizenship and immigration control . Your will start the process by providing your personal details.Visit their website on the following link Directorate of immigration
- After submitting your application form you will receive your reference number: After your registration , your University or college will send over a personalized application number that you can use to access your student pass.
- You must submit your application at least one month before your intended arrival in Uganda, but you can begin the application process up to two months in advance.
- Pay the application fee: You must pay a standard processing fee of $30 before submitting your application for a Temporary student pass.
- Await a decision: The turnaround time on applications is usually 2 weeks. You should receive a decision within two weeks.
- Receive an In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter: If your application is successful, you’ll be sent an In-principle approval letter. This document acts as your temporary student pass and grants you entry into Uganda.
- Upon presenting your In-Principle Approval letter to officials at the Ugandan port of entry, you’ll be issued with a student visit pass.
- After you’ve arrived, you’ll need to collect your official student pass from Directorate of citizenship and immigration control offices.
Note: You’ll only be exempt from student pass requirements if your study program is shorter than 30 days.

- Any genuine acceptable travel document valid not less than 6 months should be attached on the application form
- Photo with white background of the applicant should be attached on the application form.
- Visa/permit application form should be fully filled before submission
- Payment of US.$30 and proof of payment receipt should be attached on the application form.
- Admission letter from the school accepting the applicant as a new student should be attached.
- Detailed curriculum vitae (students above 18 years of age)
- Original police clearance (students above 18 years of age)
- A printed copy of the completed Application form
- Formal admissions letter from your university/College
- Registration acknowledgment letter from your University/College
- A passport that’s valid for at least 3 months beyond the duration of your stay
- In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter
- A recent passport-sized photograph of yourself
- Certificate of educational achievements and qualifications of the applicant
- Record of employment history (if any)of the applicant should be attached on the application
- Accommodation details for where you’ll be living in Uganda for the applicant.
- Means to pay the student pass collection fee should be clearly indicated

- This permit is issued to a foreigner who is in Uganda for study purposes for a shorter period of time. This permit has the same meaning as a student pass in the context of East African Community.
- It is mandatory to hold a student pass, as it is the only way of proving that you have an active status at the University in Uganda.
- It also entitles students to enjoy a number of discounts in many services and places. You will also need a valid (at least temporary) student ID for buying or applying for a monthly student pass, which might be useful for international students.
