Uganda - Apply for International Animal Health Certificate

Before you start the process, you will need to know the type of animal traveling, the country of destination, and the date of departure from Uganda.
- Determine when the animals will be traveling and what the country of destination will be.
- Obtain international Health Certificate from Ministry of Agriculture animal industry and fisheries, the Applicant is required to furnish the Commissioner, Livestock Health and Entomology with a completed filled APPLICATION FORM counter signed and stamped.
- Applicant should approach the Commissioner, Livestock Health and Entomology officer at the Ministry of Agriculture for registering the animals to be exported. The format for international health certificate can be availed from the respective registering office on visit.
- The Application form shall only be signed by authorized Commissioner, Livestock Health and Entomology or any other authorized person, and shall be duly Completed, signed and stamped using official company stamp and sealed using official company seal.
- Please submit the Application form and required documents to the respective authority. Export requirements are determined by the country of destination, with IHCs containing animal identification and health information at a minimum.
- The credentials required of the issuing Commissioner, Livestock Health and Entomology depend on the species of animal being exported and the requirements of the importing (destination) country.
- Before issuance of an International Health Certificate, the veterinary officer must complete all required pre-travel physical examinations for the animals being exported, verify herd status where applicable, and ensure vaccines, treatments, and laboratory tests are complete.
- The veterinary officer shall reviews all the submitted documents for endorsement, he or she shall verify the following.
- Verifies the animal meets the importing country’s requirements as far as can be determined;
- Verifies any required inspections/exams, vaccines, treatments, laboratory tests, and certifications were completed by a veterinarian authorized to do the work; and
- Verifies that the International Health Certificate is complete and accurate as far as can be determined.
- Once verification is complete, the International Health Certificate is endorsed and issued by the Commissioner, Livestock Health and Entomology. The endorsed certificate is endorsed and supporting documents are retained for record purposes.
Note:Sufficient time must be allowed to arrange for exported animals to be isolated before travel if required, for required treatments, to obtain test results, and meet other requirements for export.

Any person interested in exporting and importing animal breeds both domestic and wild animal he or she is required to obtain an international health certificate.
