Apply In Person

  1. To Apply for Hotel License, the applicant has to approach the UGANDA TOURISM BOARD link
  2. Attend a training course recognized by the UREI for the type of license.
  3. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
  4. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  5. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  6. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  7. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
  8. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
  9. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  10. An acknowledgment receipt will be provided. Please save it for future reference.
  11. Then the application will be processed further.
  12. The relevant authorities may conduct a site inspection to ensure that the hotel premises meet the required standards and regulations.
  13. Once approved, the hotel license will be issued to you. The license will outline the terms and conditions under which you can operate the hotel.
  14. This entire process can be completed within 25 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

  • Health and safety standards compliance.
  • Tax identification number (TIN) certificate.

EligibilityEdit

To be eligible to apply for a Hotel License in Uganda, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a legal entity registered in Uganda.
  • Have a minimum paid-up capital of UGX200 million (USD50,000) for a hotel with 50 rooms or more, or UGX100 million (USD25,000) for a hotel with less than 50 rooms.
  • Submit a feasibility study and environmental impact assessment for the proposed hotel.
  • Have the technical and financial capacity to carry out the hotel project.
  • Be able to comply with all applicable Ugandan laws and regulations.
  • Have a valid Hotel Manager's License.


FeesEdit

  • The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.


ValidityEdit

  • The Hotel License is valid for a period of 5 years and can be renewed for an additional 5 years.
