Apply In-Person

  1. To apply for a Fish production certificate in Uganda. An applicant,has to make the application in writing to the Chief Fisheries officer in such form A and manner as may be prescribed by the Chief fisheries Officer.
  2. The applicant should then fill in the required details and submit the application form with the required documents. Details of the required documents can be obtained from the ’’ Required Documents’’ of this page.
  3. Some of the details that are required include the following.
    • the particulars and description of the Fish seed production in respect of which the application is made;
    • state in sufficient details-
      • the method to be employed in fish seed production; and
      • the area within which it is proposed that the Fish seed production is to be operated;
    • be accompanied by such fee as the Chief Fisheries officer may prescribe.
  4. The Chief may, before considering an application require the applicant-
    • to satisfy him
      • that the Fish seed production is properly constructed and equipped.
      • that the form and construction of the Fish Seed Production and other equipment intended for use in fish Seed Production are adequate for the purpose of the fishing operation;
    • to supply such other information as he may require to enable him to reach a decision on the application.
  5. Pay the appropriate required fees and submit the receipt to the chief Fisheries Officer.
    • A Fish Seed Production Certificate shall be issued on payment of the fee set out in the Rules and regulation.
  6. Upon processing, the applicant will be issued with the Fish seed production Certificate.

  • All Foreigners and Resident of Uganda are Eligible.
  • Foreigner tourist must have a tourist visa.

FeesEdit

  • Issuance of fish seed production Certificate is contingent upon the payment of a fee.
  • Criteria to determine the amount of fees to be paid to the licensing authorities vary. They relate to the power of the vessel in Uganda.


ValidityEdit

  • The certificate is valid for one year.
  • The certificate will remain valid up to the date stated therein or where no such date is specified up to 31st December of the year in which it is issued

InstructionsEdit

A licence, permit, authorization or certificate of registration issued under these Regulations shall not be transferable.

  1. A Fish Seed Production Certificate shall be in the format set out in the rules and regulation.
  2. No person or establishment shall produce and distribute or sell fish seed to fish farmers without a Fish Seed Production Certificate issued by an Aquaculture Inspector.

Need for the DocumentEdit

Purpose of this document is Submit application for permission to engage in fishing activities.

Information which might helpEdit

  • A person is required to obtain a valid fishing license prior to fishing in inland waters or transporting fish taken from inland waters. A person is required to keep his/her fishing license with him/her at all times while fishing or transporting fish and must exhibit their license for inspection by any warden, department employee, guide or landowner upon request.
  • No person in Uganda is allowed to export or import a live fish or any other aquatic animal without the permission of the Minister.
  • A person who contravenes a provision of subsection (1) of the fishing Act commits an offence and is liable on conviction or imprisonment for a term of five years or to both such fine and imprisonment and, in addition, the fish or aquatic animal shall be forfeited to the Uganda Government.
  • Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection (1) of the Fishing Act the Minister has the power, from time to time, export or imports a specialized species of fish or other aquatic animal for the purpose of exchange of fishery information or for research.
  • The Sea Fisheries Act provide Regulations, which state that every vessel intended for fishing to be registered with the Ministry of Fisheries Development and require vessels first to be licensed before they are transferred. They also require Specific requirements are set out for fishing vessels engaged in shrimp trawling.
