Uganda - Apply for Fish Breeding Certificate

- To apply for a Fish breeding permit in Uganda,an applicant has to make the application in writing to the Chief fisheries Officer of Fisheries in such form and manner as may be prescribed by the Chief Fisheries officer.
- A person or establishment intending to carry out fish breeding shall apply to the Chief Fisheries Officer for a permit using Form B set out in the Rules and regulation.
- The applicant should then fill in the required details and submits the application form with the required documents. Details of the required documents can be obtained from the ’’ Required Documents’’ of this page.
- Some of the details that are required include the following.
- the particulars and description of the fish breeding permit in respect of which the application is made;
- state in sufficient details-
- the method to be employed in fish breeding; and
- the area within which it is proposed that the fish breeding is to be operated;
- be accompanied by such fee as the Chief Fisheries officer may prescribe.
- The Chief fisheries officer may, before considering an application require the applicant-
- to satisfy him
- that the fish breeding is properly constructed and equipped.
- that the form and construction of the fish breeding and other equipment intended for use in fish breeding are adequate for the purpose of the fishing operation;
- to supply such other information as he may require to enable him to reach a decision on the application.
- to satisfy him
- Pay the appropriate required fees and submit the receipt to the chief Fisheries officer.
- A Fish breeding permit shall be issued on payment of the fees set out in Rules and regulation.
- Upon processing, the applicant will be issued with the Fish breeding Permit.
- Where the Chief Fisheries Officer, refuses to grant a fish breeding permit he or she shall communicate in writing the reasons for refusal to grant.

- All Foreigners and Resident of Uganda with a Fishing pass or license are Eligible.
- Foreigner tourist must have a tourist visa

- A licence issued under this Act is valid for one year and expire on 31 December every year.

Need for the DocumentEdit
- A person is required to obtain a valid fishing license prior to fishing in inland waters or transporting fish taken from inland waters. A person is required to keep his/her fishing license with him/her at all times while fishing or transporting fish and must exhibit their license for inspection by any warden, department employee, guide or landowner upon request.

- No person in Uganda is allowed to export or import a live fish or any other aquatic animal without the permission of the Minister.
- A person who contravenes a provision of subsection (1) of the fishing Act commits an offence and is liable on conviction or imprisonment for a term of five years or to both such fine and imprisonment and, in addition, the fish or aquatic animal shall be forfeited to the Uganda Government.
- Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection (1) of the Fishing Act the Minister has the power, from time to time, export or imports a specialized species of fish or other aquatic animal for the purpose of exchange of fishery information or for research.
- The Sea Fisheries Act provide Regulations, which state that every vessel intended for fishing to be registered with the Ministry of Fisheries Development and require vessels first to be licensed before they are transferred. They also require Specific requirements are set out for fishing vessels engaged in shrimp trawling.
