Procedure

How to Apply
Offline process

1. Applicant should Head to any licensed driving school (of their choice) for training for the appropriate class extension required, on passing the drivers and theory test you will be issued with a Driving Instructor ,driving school certificate
2. Then Head to the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV) together with the Driving Instructor, Driving School Certificate of Completion for the tested class and bank receipt of Test Fees (check below (online) for the process of payment registration)
3. The IOV will issue you a copy and send the other copy of Certificate of Competence (CoC) to Face Technologies upon successful completion of the Driver test
4. Pick up the application form [this form is NOT for sale] from any of these centres; TLB branch offices, Banks, Face Technologies Offices or download the form via the URA website portal (check below (online) for the downloading process of the application form)
5. Fill in the application form accurately and take the stamped slip from the bank with the filled forms with the required attachments including Medical form endorsed by medical personnel to Face Technology
6. Face Technologies Offices will verify and process the permit upon payment of the Driving Permit production fee (Cash) to Face Technologies Offices
7. Face technology will then take your bio metric information {if applicable} and you will be issued with your driver’s licences within 60 minutes in Kampala, while it will take up to 48 hours for upcountry offices.
   
   

Online process

1. Visit the Uganda Revenue Authority website portal to register the test fee application URA
2. On the homepage ,Click on e-services and go to payment then click on payment registration, then select NTR as Tax head and chose from the drop down of the NTR head,
3. Fill in all details in mandatory fields and click on accept and register. You will get a payment slip to print out two copies and proceed any designated bank { bank will issue you with the URA account number} pay the recommended fee, on which you will be issued with a bank slip by the bank casher then head to the inspector of vehicles (IOV)
4. Thereafter, you will go to URA website portal to download the application form home page and {scroll down to locate the application forms } click on the link Download manual forms, Domestic taxes and download permit forms
5. Then Click on TR VII form for the application of Full permit, Duplicate permit, Provisional permit, extension of permit class, and exchange of a foreign permit

Instructions

1. The applicant is required to do a driving test at any of the driver testing centres countrywide.
   1. A valid (not lapsed) driving permit.
   2. Payment Slip of UGX 25,000 for test fees payable to URA.
2. On passing the test, the applicant will be issued with a Certificate of Competence (CoC) which will then be sent to face technologies for verification. If the applicant fails the test, he/she will be advised to go back for further training and return for the test at a later date.
3. On passing the driving test, the applicant will proceed to face technologies to have his desired class added to his driving permit.
   1. Payment Slip of UGX 41,000 for class extension payable to URA.
   2. The applicant is verified and the class extension is processed.
   3. UGX 80,000 cash payable at the Face Technologies offices.
4. For Kampala, the applicant will receive the driving permit within 60 minutes while it will take up to 48 hours for upcountry offices.

• A valid driver’s licences enables the holder to be able to driver in Tanzania legally as stipulated by the Uganda law

Information which might help

• It is mandatory required for all applicant to have gone through a government approved driving school for training and pass all the tests in order to upgrade to a new class
• Before applying for a class extension one should know what to upgrade to is crucial, this is because of the fact that not every class qualifies for another e.g. from class B to A is possible at any time while from class B to for example CM is possible on conditions
• Know the right time to apply for the extension is vital. E.g. it is requires one to be on the road for up to 3 years to qualify from extension from class B to CM. this means that from when your permit was issued ,you need to take up to 3 years to get another class which is not class A
