Uganda - Apply for East Africa Community (EAC) Passport

ProcedureEdit

  • East Africans may use valid national passports to travel within the region, or use the East African Passport, which was introduced as a travel document to ease border crossing for East Africans.
  • Currently,the East African Passport may be used for travel within the EAC region only. It has a six months’ multiple entry validity, which is one of the privileges it accords the holder.

Apply in person:

  1. The passport is applied at the immigration departments
    • Applicants will be required to fill out an application form with all details
  2. Visit the immigration department office in your region to obtain the application form.
  3. Fill the form with correct information as requested.
  4. Pay the application fees for the passport.
    • On completion, the applicant will proceed to the Bank to make payments and proceed to the nearest Passport Centre to submit the application and undertake bio-metric enrolment.
  5. Submit the filled form with all the required documents attached to it.
  6. The immigration officer will verify your documents and forward your application for processing.
  7. You will be issued with a transcript with date of collecting your passport.
  8. Come back and collect your passport on that date. When the passport is ready, the applicant will be alerted to proceed and pick up their passport from the place of enrolment.

Apply Online

  • Please follow the steps below to make the on-line passport application.
Step 1.
  • Log into passport portal Passport LinkApplicants will be required to fill out an online form. The form will act as an assessment tool with URA.
Step 2.
  • Accept the terms and conditions displayed in the Disclaimer.
Step 3.
  • Answer simple security questions
Step 4.
  • Complete the passport application form
Step 5.
  • Print Passport Application Payment Advice Form
Step 6.
  • Make payment for the selected type of passport using the selected payment method.
  • Applicant will print out the application with the Payment Registration Number (PRN), proceed to the Bank to pay the Passport Fees.
Step 7.
  • Schedule appointment for a date of your convenience using the schedule appointment link on the home page.
  • The applicant after payment will proceed to the Enrolment Centre mentioned above for the scheduled appointment
  • The applicant will be required to schedule an interview online with the Passport Office (Kampala, Mbale, Mbarara, Gulu and Ugandan Missions abroad) for purposes of enrolling applicants' biometrics.
Step 8.
  • Print Passport Application Appointment Form.
Step 9.
  • Report to the selected passport Centre with the passport appointment form with the appropriate application requirements displayed on the website, for enrolment.
  • After the interview, the application will be processed and the passport printed if the applicant qualify.
  • When the passport is ready, the applicants will be alerted to proceed and pick up their passports from where the applicant was enrolled.
  • If the applicant doesn't qualify, he/she will be immediately notified.

  • Dully filled application Form.
  • Attach a copy of the National ID of the Recommender.
  • Attach a copy of National ID or National Identification Number of the applicant.
  • Attach copies of academic documents for proof of profession (where applicable).
  • Attach proof of payment of prescribed fees.
  • Attach a copy of birth certificate, adoption order, and consent letter from parents/guardians in case of minors.

EligibilityEdit

  • An East African Passport may be issued to a citizen of the Uganda who intends to travel within the East African Community member States.

FeesEdit

The passport costs US$10 or the equivalent in EAC currencies. The fees for the International East African e-Passport shall be as follows:

  • Ordinary passport (48 Pages) - UGX 250,000
  • Service Passport (64 Pages) - UGX 400,000
  • Diplomatic Passport (64 Pages) - UGX 500,000
  • Express Processing Service - UGX 150,000
  • Courier Service for Applicants Abroad - UGX I0,000
  • Certification of Passport - UGX 30,000
  • Fine for Replacement of lost or damaged Passport - UGX I00,000


ValidityEdit

  • It is valid for a period not exceeding five years from the date of issue, but may be renewed for a further period of five years, provided that the total period shall not exceed ten years in aggregate.
  • It has a six months multiple entry validity.

  • Passports are issued out by the passport control office at the ministry of internal affairs in Uganda. Currently passports are printed at the Immigration Headquarters, Uganda and at other Immigration Offices across the country.
