Uganda - Apply for Driving school Licence

New Applicants:
- Download and fill in application forms(FORM 11) for both Driving School License and Driving Instructor License from this link Check at the end of this Document or pick them from any TLB offices in Kampala, Mbarara, Fort Portal or Mbale.
- Present vehicle for inspection at SGS Motor Vehicle Inspection Centre in Kawanda and the other testing centres along with the following documentation:
- Log book
- Other form of proof of ownership if log book does not bear applicants name
- Valid Third Party Insurance Certificate
- For registered companies, copies of a Certificate of Incorporation,
- Memorandum and Articles of Association should be submitted to the Board for record purposes.
- If vehicle passes the test and is fit for use as a Country or Town Taxi, an inspection report is issued.
- Inspection of the Driving School premises (Office, Classroom and Training ground) and the vehicles is done by an official from Transport Licensing Board and the requirements are as follows:
- A furnished classroom measuring about 10 square meters, or which is capable of accommodating a minimum number of 10 students at any one time.
- A minimum of 2 instruction vehicles that are road worthy and fitted with instructor controls.
- A furnished Administration office.
- An outdoor training ground measuring at least 50 x 100 meters and
- Clearly marked with driving lanes.
- A minimum of 2 Driving Instructors who satisfy the following statutory requirements under the Regulations.
- Not less than 24 years of age and not more than 65 years of age.
- Have a minimum driving experience of at least 5 years for the
- Group of motor vehicles for which he or she intends to instruct learner drivers to drive.
- Have a minimum qualification of Uganda Certificate of Education
- (UCE) or its equivalent.
- Be able to write read and communicate in English effectively.
- If your school fulfils all the above requirements, go to the URA Portal(www.ura.go.ug)or go to the TLB offices for tax assessment forms for Driving School License, Driving Instructor License and the Certificate of fitness for the vehicles.
- Pay in the bank and obtain receipts of payment.
- Return to Transport Licensing Board with the receipts.
- Your Licence will be processed and issued.
Required DocumentsEdit
- A minimum of two instruction motor vehicles in good mechanical condition with dual brakes and dual clutches for manual cars marked with the name of the driving school, training materials and a valid trading license
- Certificate of incorporation, Copies of memorandum and articles of association
- Proof of ownership of land or tenancy agreement for the training ground
- Qualified instructors.

EligibilityEdit
- be aged 24 years or older
- hold a current Ugandan driver Licence
- be physically and mentally competent
- have an acceptable driving record;
- not have been convicted of a criminal offence in the last (5) years.
- He/ she must have under gone training for instructors.

- Licence fees 200,000 Ugshs.
- Renewal Fee: 200,000 Ugshs.

- (1)The Director of Transport shall maintain a register of driving
schools and driving instructors.
- (2)The Director of Transport shall every six months,using
appropriate means of communication,notify the public of the licensed driving schools and driving instructors.

Information which might helpEdit
- (1)Where a licence issued under these Regulations is misplaced or
lost,the Director of Transport shall upon presentation of proof of ownership of the misplaced or lost licence and a police report confirming the loss or misplacement,issue a duplicate licence.
- (2)The fee for a duplicate licence shall be equivalent to fifty
percent of the fees paid for the original licence.
- (3)The expiry date of a duplicate licence shall be the date of expiry of the original licence.
