Procedure

Applying for this Licence involves a number of steps, including police checks, an instructor training course and a final assessment.

1. Licence or Permit for instructors Licence can be obtained from Transport licensing Board
2. The first step is to pick the application form and the applicant must be of sound age of 18 years of age and must be free from any mental or physical disabilities that might affect the applicant's ability to instruct persons in the operation of motor vehicles.
3. Applicant must pass a driving test encompassing the skills of driving, application of the rules of the road, personal driving habits and the application of techniques of instruction before filling the application form.
4. Fill up the appropriate application form as described by the Transport Licensing Board.
5. The applicant will undergo a series of exams to determine instructional ability, driving skills and knowledge of the rules of the road before issuing the Licence.
6. The operating record of the applicant must show that Applicant is of good character.
7. After filling the form proceed to pay the prescribed fee.
8. Submit the dully filled in form attached with pay slip to the Licensing Officer in charge of the area.
9. Collect your instructor Licence certificate from where your application was submitted within a day from the date the application was received at municipality in case there is no rejection.
10. The transport licensing board may refuse to issue a license based on the information contained on the operating record subject to the provisions of the Regulations.
11. Renewals may be made by re-submitting application forms, passing such tests as may be prescribed by the Director and paying.

• Ordinary level certificate of education.
• Subject matter and classes will vary greatly depending on your state, but will include both classroom work and driving course work.
• an abstract of the driving record (if from out-of-province)
• medical referral forms completed by a duly qualified medical practitioner
• vision referral form completed by a duly qualified ophthalmologist

or optometrist (if necessary)

• operator's license for inspection.
• such other documents supporting character, experience, or qualifications upon request

Eligibility

• be aged 25 years or older
• hold a current Ugandan driver Licence
• be physically and mentally competent
• have an acceptable driving record;
• not have been convicted of a criminal offence in the last (5) years.
• Applicant must be 25 years and above
• He/ she must have under gone training for instructors.
• Must have experience of five years with the class of vehicles you want to instruct.
• Anyone applying for a driving instructor’s license must pass a vision test.
• You will be required to pass a physical – and possibly a mental health – screening before becoming eligible.

Fees

License Fee:

• (a) One group of vehicles - 100,000 Ugshs
• (b) Two groups of vehicles - 160,000 Ugshs
• (c) More than two groups - 300,000 Ugshs

Renewal Fee:

• (a) One group of vehicles - 100,000 Ugshs
• (b) Two groups of vehicles -160,000 Ugshs
• (c) More than two groups - 300,000 Ugshs

Validity

Validity: 1 Year

• Legal Status of the Applicant
• Certificate of Registration,
• Certificate of Incorporation,
• Memorandum and Articles of Association,
• Information if the Applicant has ever been convicted of a criminal offence in Uganda or in any other country.
• Information if you have ever acquired a Licence and state the nature of the Licence, date issued and the Licence number.
• evaluate the applicant's personal driving habits, application of Rules of the Road, safe driving habits, and application of instructional technique;
• evaluate applicant's response to verbal directions and questions
• evaluate applicant's knowledge and ability to demonstrate his/her application of technique of Instruction to students in given driving situations;
• demonstrate the method of teaching several different skills and basic maneuvers; and evaluate the sequence, technical knowledge quality of the overall demonstration
