ProcedureEdit

  1. Licence or Permit for Butcher can be obtained from Municipality or Ministry of Agriculture animal industry and Fisheries
  2. Fill up the appropriate application form as described by the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industries and Fisheries.
  3. After filling the form proceed to pay the prescribed fee
  4. Submit the dully filled in form,attached with pay slip to the Health Officer in charge of the area in which the Butcher is located or nearby health inspector office whose officers shall carryout inspection of your premises.
    • The Health officer shall ensure that the premises are at a reasonable distance, as shall be determined by the Authority, from a toilet, garbage refuse skips, an open drainage channel, hair dressing areas or other premises where other items other than meat are sold.
    • The Health Inspector shall also ensure that meat is properly placed to prevent it from getting contaminated and where a butcher’s shop sells meat of different animals or birds, the licensee of the butcher’s shop shall ensure that there are facilities to adequately separate and clearly label the meat of the different animals or birds.
    • The health inspector should also make sure that the Applicant should not permit any gut scrapping, tripe cleaning or domestic washing to be carried out in his or her premises of work.
    • The applicant not to suffer any permit refusal, filth or meat trimmings not intended for sale should be deposited or accumulated in his or her premises except in special receptacles provided for that purpose.
  5. In order for the applicant to be issued with a Butcher’s Shop Licence, the applicant Must observe all due cleanliness mentioned above to the satisfaction of the Authority in regard to his or her premises and all articles, apparatus and utensils kept in the Butcher’s shop;
  6. Collect your Butcher Licence from where your application was submitted within a day from the date the application was received at municipality or Ministry of Agriculture Animal industry and fisheries in case there is no rejection.

Note: A licensee of a butcher’s shop shall not permit any live animal or bird to be kept in his or her butcher’s shop.

InstructionsEdit

  • A butcher’s shop shall not be used for the carrying on of any other trade or process without the written approval of the Council.
  • A licensee of a butcher’s shop shall not permit any live animal or bird to be kept in his or her butcher’s shop.
  • A butcher who contravenes this ordinance commits an offence.
  • The Applicant shall take all the necessary precautions to guard against any meat kept in his or her premises being contaminated by flies.

It is incumbent to the applicant of a butcher’s shop, without delay, inform a medical officer of health of the occurrence or suspected occurrence of any infectious disease among any of his or her employees and shall comply with any directions which the medical officer of health shall give for the purpose of preventing the spread of the disease.
