- To apply for Artisanal Processor/Fish monger Licence /permit in Uganda,an applicant has to make the application in writing to the Directorate of Fisheries in such form and manner as may be prescribed by the Commissioner of Fisheries in Uganda.
- The applicant can also receive the application form from the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industries and fisheries office.
- An artisanal fish farmer, fisherman, artisanal fish processor or fishmonger shall apply for an urban agricultural permit.
- The applicant should then fill in the required details and submits the application form with the required documents. Details of the required documents can be obtained from the ’’ Required Documents’’ of this page.
- Some of the details that are required include the following.
- the particulars and description of the fish monger/Artisanal Processor in respect of which the application is made;
- state in sufficient details-
- the method to be employed in fishing; and
- the area within which it is proposed that the artisanal processor is to be operated;
- be accompanied by such fee as the Authority may prescribe.
- The Authority may, before considering an application require the applicant-
- to satisfy them
- that the Artisanal processor/fish monger is properly equipped.
- that the form of equipment intended for use in Artisan processor are adequate for the purpose of the fishing operation;
- to supply such other information as he may require to enable Authority to reach a decision on the application.
- to satisfy them
- Pay the appropriate required fees and submit the receipt to the commissioner for fisheries.
- Upon processing, the applicant will be issued with the Artisan Processor/ Fish monger Permit.

- All Foreigners and Resident of Uganda with a Fishing pass or license are Eligible.
- Foreigner tourist must have a tourist visa.
FeesEdit
Licence Fees Ugshs 50,000 for the artisanal/fish monger's Licence.
ValidityEdit
A licence issued under this Act is valid for one year and expire on 31 December every year.

Need for the DocumentEdit
- A person is required to obtain a valid fishing license prior to fishing in inland waters or transporting fish taken from inland waters.
- A person is required to keep his/her fishing license with him/her at all times while fishing or transporting fish and must exhibit their license for inspection by any warden, department employee, guide or landowner upon request.

- No person in Uganda is allowed to export or import a live fish or any other aquatic animal without the permission of the Minister.
- A person who contravenes a provision of Fish Act Cap 197 Subsection (1) of the fishing Act commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine or imprisonment for a term of five years or to both such fine and imprisonment and, in addition, the fish or aquatic animal shall be forfeited to the Ugandan Government.
- Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection (1) of the Fishing Act the Minister has the power, from time to time, export or imports a specialized species of fish or other aquatic animal for the purpose of exchange of fishery information or for research.
- The Sea Fisheries Act provide Regulations, made under section 13 of Fisheries act which state that every vessel intended for fishing to be registered with the Ministry of Fisheries Development and require vessels first to be licensed before they are transferred. They also require Specific requirements are set out for fishing vessels engaged in shrimp trawling
