Uganda - Apply for Aquaculture Establishment Approval Permit

- An application for a fishing licence under this ordinance is required to make it in a writing to the Chief fisheries officer in such form and manner as may be prescribed by the Chief Fisheries Officer and shall contain the following:
- Contain the particulars and description of the Aquaculture establishment approve permit in respect of which the application is made;
- state in sufficient details-
- the method to be employed in Aquaculture establishment approve permit; and
- the area within which it is proposed that the Aquaculture establishment approve permit is to be operated;
- be accompanied by such fee as the chief fisheries Officer may prescribe.
- The Chief fisheries officer may, before considering an application require the applicant-
- to satisfy him
- that the Aquaculture establishment approve permit is properly equipped.
- that the form and control of development in the Aquaculture establishment approve permit other equipment intended for use in fishing are adequate for the purpose of the fishing operation;
- to supply such other information as he may require to enable him to reach a decision on the application.
Issuance and validity of license
- The Chief fisheries officer shall issue to a successful applicant a licence for the Aquaculture establishment approve permit subject to such conditions as he may deem necessary.
- A licence issued under this Act shall be valid for one year and expire on 31 December every year.
- The holder of a licence under this Act shall, not later than one month before its expiration, apply to the Chief fisheries officer for a licence to take effect from the expiry of the current licence.

- Renewal Fee: 100,000 Ugshs
ValidityEdit
- The permit may be granted for a period not exceeding one (1) year.
- The permit shall be granted subject to such conditions as are relevant to the specified particular types of uses.

InstructionsEdit
- No person shall engage in fish breeding or shall export or import live fish for purposes of aquaculture without a permit issued by the Chief Fisheries Officer.
- Importation of live fish in Uganda requires a certificate of fish import.
- No person or establishment shall carry out aquaculture production in such a way that—
- (a)degrades the environment without mitigation;
- (b)introduces new species apart from those approved for that area;
- (c) Compromises safety of food fish.

Information which might helpEdit
All new genetic materials intended for aquaculture shall conform to the National Bio-safety Guidelines as set by the Uganda National Council of Science and Technology and shall not be released into aquatic systems, without a permit from the Chief Fisheries Officer.
