Trinidad and Tobago - Restoration of Citizenship
ProcedureEdit
- You must complete Application Form 16, which can be obtained from any of the Immigration Offices listed in the "Office Locations and Contacts" section in this page or from any Trinidad and Tobago Foreign Mission.
- The required documentation must be submitted with your application form.
- Your completed application form must be returned, together with all required documentation, to any Immigration Office or Trinidad and Tobago Foreign Mission.
- When you make your application, you will have to pay the applicable processing fee.
- Your application will then be submitted to the Chief Immigration Officer, who will review your application and, if necessary, request omitted information. Once your application is deemed complete, the Chief Immigration Officer will submit it to the Citizenship and Immigration Section of the Ministry for the approval of the Minister.
- The Chief Immigration Officer will send you written notification of the final decision regarding your application.
- If approval is granted to restore your Citizenship, you will have to pay the appropriate fee before collecting your Certificate of Restoration of Citizenship.
Required DocumentsEdit
- The original and one copy of your Birth Certificate and supporting affidavit, if applicable.
- If you are a married woman, the original and one copy of your Marriage Certificate.
- If you are a divorced woman, the original and one copy of your Divorce papers.
- The original and one copy of your current Naturalisation Certificate.
- A Police Certificate of Character from the country in which you reside at the time of your application. Certificates must not be dated more than six months before the date of application.

EligibilityEdit
You can apply to restore your Trinidad and Tobago citizenship if you:
- Are a former citizen of Trinidad and Tobago either by birth or by descent.
- Lost your Trinidad and Tobago citizenship prior to July 29, 1988 either by:
- Voluntarily acquiring the citizenship of another country.
- Renouncing your Trinidad and Tobago citizenship.
In order to apply, you must NOT:
- Be in a prohibited class as outlined in Section 8(1) of the Immigration Act.
- Be a habitual criminal as defined in Section 7(3) of the Immigration Act.
FeesEdit
- You must pay a non-refundable processing fee of TT$50.00 when you submit your application form.
- If your application is approved, you must then pay TT$500.00 in order to be issued a Certificate of Restoration of Citizenship.
Payments can be made at the Immigration Office or Trinidad and Tobago Foreign Mission where you are submitting your application or collecting your certificate.
