ProcedureEdit

  • Any person or business interested in applying for an Import Licence should obtain and complete the Application for Licence to Import Goods into Trinidad and Tobago form, which can be downloaded from MTI's website. Application forms can also be picked up from the Trade Licence Unit office or from Customs and Excise in Tobago.
  • Application forms must be completed in triplicate (one original and two copies) for vehicles, and in duplicate (one original and one copy) for other goods. Copies of the completed application form should be made prior to the original and each copy being signed. Application forms must be completed using block letters and, in certain cases, include specific information as follows:
    • For refrigerators, air conditioning (A/C) units, freezers, water-coolers, and any item using a refrigerant gas, the refrigerant gas must be indicated.
    • For fire extinguishers, the chemical must be indicated.
  • The original and copies of the completed application form, together with all required documentation, must be brought to the Trade Licence Unit office or to Customs and Excise in Tobago.

A Trade Licence Unit employee will review the application and all required documentation. If the application is acceptable, one stamped copy of the Import Licence application form will be returned to the applicant. This stamped copy must be presented when the applicant returns to the Trade Licence Unit office to collect the prepared Import Licence.
