Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To Import Ethanol, the applicant has to approach Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Authority. link
2. Ensure that the ethanol the applicant’s plan to import meets Tanzanian standards and specifications. Ethanol intended for certain applications, such as medical or industrial use, may have specific purity requirements.
3. Select a reputable freight forwarder and customs broker who are experienced in handling imports to Tanzania. They can assist with logistics, documentation, and customs clearance.
4. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the authorized officer.
5. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form (Incomplete application forms are not accepted)
6. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
7. The applicant has to attach photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting it.
8. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
9. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
10. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
11. An acknowledgment receipt will be provided. Please save it for future reference.
12. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
13. Once customs clearance is complete, arrange for the pick-up and distribution of the ethanol to its final destination within Tanzania.
14. For further process, the applicant has to follow the instruction given by the officer.
15. The processing time for this procedure takes up to 2 months.

Eligibility

The applicant is eligible to import ethanol in Tanzania if the applicant meets the following requirements:

• The applicant must be a registered importer with the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA).
• The applicant must have a valid import permit issued by the TRA.
• The ethanol must be of good quality and meet the import standards of Tanzania.
• The applicant must have the necessary documentation, such as a bill of lading, packing list, and certificate of origin.

Fees

• The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.

Validity

• The import permit is valid for 3 months. The applicant must renew his/her import permit every 3 months.
