Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To apply for Geneva Convention Travel Document, the applicant has to visit is the Immigration Services Department of Tanzania contact link
2. Applicant should collect the application form from the office.
3. Applicant should make sure to carry both photocopies and originals of all the documents that are needed for completing this procedure.
4. Obtain the attestation letter from the refugee department and collect the required documents for the application.
5. At the service desk, obtain the application form and fill it with the correct information. Please read the instructions carefully as the applicant fill the form.
6. Pay the application fees and obtain the proof of payment.
7. The fee for Geneva Convention Travel Document - Tsh20, 000/
8. Attach the documents to the filled application form including the payment receipt and submit it to the immigration officer at the service desk.
9. The officer will check the application form to verify the information the applicant have provided, if it is correct, the application will be forwarded to another station for processing.
10. The Processing time for this service is 2 to 3 weeks.
11. The applicant will be issued with a slip indicating the date which the passport will be ready for collection, return on this date to pick the passport.

Apply Online

1. The applicant can obtain and fill the application form online through this Apply Online
2. On the information bar, click on the e-service drop box and then click on “Passport Application Form” to open a new page. (For Kiswahili only)
3. In the new page click on “OmbiJipya” (New application)
4. Fill in the Background information to proceed to the application form by clicking on “Anza Ombi” (start application)
5. Print the reference number or ID for future use and proceed to the next page.
6. Fill in the online application form following the instruction forms carefully to the end.
7. Make the online payment for the application and obtain the payment receipt.
8. Then submit the application from online.
9. The applicant will receive a notification in the email regarding the application.

Eligibility

• A Geneva Convention travel document may be issued to any refuge granted asylum in the United Republic of Tanzania pursuant to the provisions of the Refugees Act, 1998 for the purpose of travelling abroad.
• This document may be issued to any refugee granted asylum in the United Republic of Tanzania.

• Geneva Convention Travel Document - Tsh20, 000/

Validity

• A Geneva Convention travel document shall be valid for all countries for a period of two years subject to renewal for another two years, provided that, the total period shall not exceed eight years in aggregate.
