Procedure

An East African passport may be issued to a citizen of the United Republic who is entitled to such passport as specified by the Tanzania Passports and Travel documents Act of 2002.

Apply In-Person:

1. To get an East African Passport, the applicant has to visit the Immigration office nearby their location for getting East African Passport contact link
2. At the office the applicant will be issued with a passport application form, fill it clearly stating the type of passport the applicant are applying for, in this case An East African passport.
3. Pay for the East African passport application fees and obtain the payment slip/ receipt.
4. Submit all the required documents attached to the filled application form including the payment slip.
5. The documents that are needed for completing this procedure are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
6. The assisting immigration officer will check the application and grant the applicant an approval on the application.
7. The applicant will be directed to another station where the biometrical data will be collected for the passport processing.
8. The Fee for this procedure is TZS 130,000 USD 75.
9. Once this is done the applicant will be issued with a registration slip indicating the date when the passport will be ready for collection.
10. Once processed go back to the immigration department, produce identification documents and collect the new passport within a month.

Required Documents

• A Birth Certificate or Affidavit of Birth or Certificate of Naturalization of the applicant (In case the applicant is a citizen by naturalization).
• A birth Certificate or Affidavit of Birth or Certificate of Naturalization of the applicant's parent or parents
• National Identity Card,
• Recent, clear 5 passport size photographs
• In case the applicant is below the age of 18 years, the parent's or legal guardian must accompany the applicant and submit a written consent regarding the applicants’ trip outside the country.

Eligibility

• East African citizens who are required to carry East African missions.

Fees

• Fee for this procedure is TZS 130,000 USD 75

Validity

• The passport is initially valid for five years and the validity can be extended for five more years with the total validity not extending 10 years. However, the passport can lose its validity as soon as the holder seizes to be An East African.

Instructions

• An application for a passport shall be accompanied by a Birth Certificate or Birth affidavit or Certificate of Naturalization of the applicant (In case the applicant is a citizen by naturalization), a birth certificate or birth affidavit or Certificate of Naturalization of the applicant's parent or parents, recent, clear and un-mounted passport size photographs as may be directed by the issuing authority and in case of the applicant who is below the age of 18 years, the parent's or legal guardian's written consent.

WHERE A CUSTOMER CANNOT GET MONEY RECEIPT NUMBER:

• In case the customer does not receive the payment receipt number on time, he or she is could return to the system and select the request tracking, after which he / she will be required to enter the request number and his / her name and if payment is received, the form can be printed.
• NB:Payments of Tsh 20,000 already paid will not be refunded even if customer request is denied.
