Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To apply for conducting wildlife research, the applicant has to visit the Tanzania Wildlife Research Institute (TAWIRI) contact link
2. The applicant should get an application form from the respective officer at the office and fill in all the necessary information in them.
3. Applicant must provide all the information that is requested in the application form.
4. Applicant should make sure to carry both photocopies and originals of all the documents that are needed for completing this procedure.
5. Documents that are needed for completing this procedure are mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
6. Applicant must attach photocopies of all the documents along with the application form before submitting it at the office.
7. The Fee for this procedure has to be paid as per the authority’s request while submitting the application form at the office.
8. The receipt of fee payment will be provided by the respective officer at the office, this receipt has to be kept safe with the applicant since it might be needed later.
9. Once the submission is completed, the respective officer will inform the applicant regarding the processing time and the methods for getting their certificate.
10. If the applicant did not receive the certificate within the mentioned time, they can visit the office to know the status of their application.

Need for the Document

• This approval is necessary for conducting any wildlife research legally in Tanzania.
• Typically, wild animals collected from the wild or free-living animals kept in various confined conditions are used for wildlife research (e.g. laboratory, zoo, aquarium, sanctuary). Rarely the wildlife species intentionally grown in lab settings akin to those used for animal models.
