Procedure

A certificate of Identity may be issued to a person other than a citizen of the United Republic of Tanzania who cannot obtain a passport from the country of which he is a citizen or does not have citizenship of any country for the purpose of traveling outside the United Republic of Tanzania.

Apply In-Person :

1. In case you have lost your passport and you require the certificate of identity to travel, visit the police station to report the loss and obtain the police statement.
   
2. Write a declaration detailing the circumstances in which the passport was lost.
   
3. If you’re born in Tanzania obtain your birth certificate and prepare two passport size photos.
   
4. After gathering all these requirements, visit the immigration office in your region to make the application
   
5. Obtain the application form from the service desk and fill it accordingly.
   
6. Pay for the application and obtain the payment receipt
7. Attach all required documents to the application form and submit it to the assisting immigration official at your service in the immigration office.-
   
8. The official will validate your application and forward it for processing.

Eligibility

• Certificate of Identity may be issued to a person other than a citizen of the United Republic of Tanzania who cannot obtain a passport from the country of which he is the citizen or does not have citizenship of any country for the purpose of travelling outside the United Republic of Tanzania.

Fees

Certificate of Identity - Tsh10,000

Validity

• A certificate of identity shall be valid for all countries, except where the Director has prescribed otherwise for a period stated into the certificate.

If you have lost your passport and you are eligible to apply for the certificate of identity, visit the police station to report the loss and obtain the police statement, then write an declaration detailing the circumstances in which the passport was lost, gather two passport photos and if you were born in Tanzania obtain your birth certificate and make your application to the immigration office

Revocation of a Passport and Travel Document

The Principal Commissioner of Immigration Services at any time may revoke the passport or travel document granted or issued to the holder where:

• The holder of a passport permits another person to use his/her passport.
• The holder of a passport has been deported or repatriated to the United Republic of Tanzania at the expense of the Government.
• The holder has ceased to be a citizen of United Republic of Tanzania.
• The holder engages in illicit drug trafficking, money laundering, migrant trafficking, terrorism acts or any other illegal transaction.
• It is in the national interests or national security.
