Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To apply for a change of address in vehicle registration certificate in Tamil Nadu the applicant has to approach the RTO office to which your area belongs to.
2. Please follow our “Office Locations & Contacts” section of this page to get details of the RTO offices.
3. Complete the application by filling up the application form 33A. Form- Link to download : Application Form
4. Application forms can also be obtained from the appropriate RTO offices.
5. Please make sure you have all the documents that are listed down the “Required Document” section of this page.
6. Submit the filled up form at the right counter along with the required documents and pay the appropriate fees.
7. The officer at the counter will start processing your application.
8. Physical verification of vehicle for chassis number will be carried. After verifying the submitted documents, officials will make the changes respectively.
9. Once the verification is carried out and changes are made successfully, change of address will be made on the RC.
   
   

Apply Online:

1. To change or update address or information in vehicle registration certificate (RC), the applicant has to visit the official portal of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways: Link to Portal
2. In the homepage, please scroll down to “Informational Services” and click on the “more” button in the “Citizen Guide” tab.
3. The applicant will be taken to the “Manual” page where all the available services will be listed.
4. Please click on the name of the required service and click on “Step by Step procedure” from the drop down menu.
5. The applicant will be taken to a new PDF page where the process for applying will be explained clearly.
6. Please follow the steps to complete the application.

• Valid Insurance Certificate.
• Affidavit sworn by the applicant before an Executive or First Class Judicial Magistrate or Notary public.
• No-objection Certificate from the Financier if the vehicle is covered by Hire purchase Agreement/Hypothecation/Lease.
• Proof of changed address. ( Ration card / Voter ID / LIC Policy)
• Payment of green tax wherever applicable.
• Aadhaar card
• Pollution under control certificate
• School certificate / Birth certificate

Eligibility

Applicants who already own a legal and valid Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC) and driving license can apply to update or change the information in their RC.

Fees to be paid for change of address are

• Rs.20/-
• Compounding Fee for belated application
• Up to 30 Days Rs.40/-
• Up to 60 Days Rs.75/-
• Above 60 Days Rs.100/- + Service charges Rs.50/-

Validity

Change of address will not affect the validity.

Instructions

Every owner of Motor Vehicle shall cause the Vehicle to be Registered by a Registrating Authority in whose Jurisdiction he has residence or place of business where the vehicle is normally kept.

Required Information

• Full name of owner of vehicle
• Father / Husband's Name
• Old Address
• New Address
• Vehicle Registration Number
• Date and Place of Registration

Need for the Document

• Any change in the address of the vehicle owner has to be intimated and obtain a copy of the registration certificate
• This change of address is required by the government bodies to intimate the permit holder for the dues, penalties or any intimation.
• Vehicle registration's purpose is to establish clear ownership and to tax motorist or vehicle owners. It is a requirement by the state.
• After, one register his / her vehicle – He / She will receive a unique number to use it in number board

• One who wishes to sell his or her vehicle should make sure that the proper name transfer in RC is carried out
• FC (for clearance) is a process meant for reviewing the condition of the vehicle by the RTO authorities
