Procedure

General Extension:

Submit an application for extension with the service center of the National Immigration Agency.

If you have satisfied the condition of extension before the expiry of the validity period, but were not able submit all the required documents, you may first file a request for consent from the service center of the National Immigration Agency in the place where you are currently staying and then file the application for extension with the service center within 15 days from acquisition of the complete documents. In case the approval for extension after the first filing was denied, the overstay period shall start from the expiry date of the originally granted validity period.

Special Extension

Any person entering into the territory with a visa on arrival or visa waiver is not allowed to seek any extension. However, if the person cannot exit the territory before the expiry of the validity period due to force majeure or other material event, an application should be filed with the Bureau of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs or its branch institution to seek visitors visa.

Required Documents

• One copy of Foreigner Stay Application Form.
• Original copy and one photocopy of the passport (original copy will be returned after verification).
• Relevant documents of proof.

Eligibility

General Extension: A visa holder who wishes to stay longer in Taiwan may file for an extension before their current visa expires.

Special Extension: Any foreigner who has stayed in Taiwan for a total of 180 days but who still needs to extend their stay due to force majeure or other material event may file an application for extension with their local service center of the National Immigration Agency.

Fees

Explain the fees structure which is required for obtaining the certificate/document.

Validity

General Extension: Each extension shall not exceed the validity period of the original visa. The total period of stay shall not exceed 180 days.

Notes:

• Types of Visitors Visa: Visa-waiver or with validity period of 14, 30, 60 or 90 days.
• Calculation of Stay Period: From the day following the entry into the territory.
