ProcedureEdit

  1. To renew a residence permit you will need to get in touch with your local Canton (see contact information below).
  2. Applications for renewal must be submitted to the commune of residence no earlier than three months and no later than two weeks prior to date of expiry of the residence permit.
  3. You will need to present your residence permit, a valid passport (which must remain valid for at least three months after the date of expiry of the residence permit) and (if available) the letter notifying you that your residence permit is about to expire.

Need for the DocumentEdit

If you are planning to work or stay in Switzerland for longer than three months you will need to secure a permit. Residence permits are issued by the Cantonal Migration Offices.

EU/EFTA nationals

  • L EU/EFTA permit (Short-term residents)

Third-state nationals (L, B, C) are issued Biometric residence permits.
