ProcedureEdit

  1. To apply for an emergency passport, applicants will need to apply in person at the Passport Office.
  2. Applicants will be asked to complete an application and submit it together with a valid proof of identity and any document justifying the urgency of the trip (Act of death, certificate of hospitalization, mission order.) Note: Contact the Passport Office or the Embassy, to inquire about additional documents you will need to submit or present when you apply for an emergency passport. Contact information are provided below.
  3. Pay the application fee.
  4. Applicants will be advised when can they come back to collect their emergency passport.


If you are outside Switzerland:

You may use the link provided under "Office Locations & Contacts" to get in touch with the nearest Swiss Embassy in the country you are currently staying. The Embassy's consular service section will process your request to obtain an emergency passport.

ValidityEdit

The provisional pass or emergency passport will be issued for a maximum period of 12 months for the duration of your planned stay abroad. At most for the duration required by the country of arrival.


Surrendering your provisional passport on your return:

You will be asked to return your provisional passport when you enter Switzerland. As a rule, you may be asked to surrender it at the airport.


Note: The fee paid for the provisional pass is not included in the issue of a regular passport.

InstructionsEdit

You may apply for a provisional pass or emergency passport in case the period of 10 working days is no longer sufficient to obtain a regular passport.

An emergency passport may also be issued to you in case you can not provide a valid ID (example: You have lost your ID or passport before departure)

If you do not posses a regular passport and a valid identity card does not meet the requirements of your target country, the competent issuing authority can help you with the issuing of a provisional passport, in Switzerland the cantonal passport office, and the next Swiss representative abroad.
