Sweden - Renew Your Driver License

Transport Agency will automatically send out an application form for license renewal to the address where you are registered every ten years, if you have a driver's license with jurisdiction AM, A1, A2, A, B or BE. If you have not received your application form, and there is only a month left before your license expires you should contact the Transport Agency's customer service. When you change your name or social security number, or if the license is no longer displaying the correct permissions, Transport Agency will automatically print an application form for license renewal. Automatic mailing of the renewal form also happens when Transport Agency has approved extension of your higher power (C1, C1E, C, CE, D1, D1E, D, DE), the new validity period entered on the license.
The amount that you should pay for renewal will be sent to you together with the form.
Once you have received the form, fill it up and attach a photo of you or you can have your photo taken in any Transport Administration office.
When both your application form and payment have been received by the Transportation Board, it will take about five working days before you receive your new license.

Recent Photo

When you renew your license, you can have your photograph taken at any of the Transport Administration examiners office or send in a photo that you have attached to the application form (basic plot).

Shooting at Banverket driver test You can have your photographs taken in any of the Transport Administration examiners office (office areas) when you renew your driver's license and where you have submitted your application for a license (application form). You may not take the photo with you afterwards, it is saved digitally with your signature until the driving license to be produced.

In Stockholm, it is only at the Transport Administration examiners office on West Railway Street 7 that can be photographed.

You must identify yourself.

Remember to bring a valid and acceptable identification document when going to have your photo taken.

Acceptable identification documents

You can also photograph you in one of our reception locations, in Borlnge, in Rdavgen 1 (Pylon, beside Transport Administration Headquarters).

You do not need to book a time for photography, but came to the office 30 minutes before it closes. Swedish Transport Administration charges a fee for the shoot, you will receive a separate payment form in the mail. Read more about fees

Note that at the renewal fee shall be paid for the production of Transport Agency to begin production, use the payment slip attached to the application form (basic plot).

Photographing of the photographer You choose where you shoot yourself, it may include a photo booth, photo studio or at a dealer that provides photography. You must submit a photo of a copy when you submit your application for a license on the form provided for it (because the action). It is important that the photo is of good quality and follow these instructions:

The photo submitted in a copy and will be good likeness.
The face will be imaged directly in front of his face visible.
Both eyes should be completely visible and the pupils should be clearly visible. Must look at the camera.
The photograph should have good clarity. The focus should be in the pupil. Reflectors are not seen in glasses.
You may not have dark or colored glasses.
You may not have any headgear or similar.
The face should be evenly lit and the background should be light and no shadows.
The whole head is visible, not just the face.
Interpupillary distance and POINT OF THE CHIN should be 14-17 mm.
The photograph should be renskuret 35 mm wide, 45 mm high and have rounded or sharp corners.
Both black and white photos and color photos are approved. On the final license will be the photograph that is reproduced in black and white even though color photo submitted.

The guidelines were developed by the Postal Service, the National Police, the Swedish Bankers' Association and the Swedish Transport Administration in co-operation with Graphium Card AB, Setec Card AB and DNV InspectionAB, dept PPC.

Valid ID

Remember to bring a valid and acceptable identification document when you have your photo taken.

Acceptable identification documents:

SIS-branded business cards, business cards or ID
Swedish national identity card under the Ordinance (2005:661) on the national identity card
identification card issued by the Tax
Swedish driving license
Swedish EU passport
other EU passports issued between September 1, 2006 *
passport issued by Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland as of September 1, 2006

Other EU passport issued from September 1, 2006: passport that meets the requirements of Council Regulation (EC) No 2252/2004 of 13 December 2004 on standards for security features and biometrics in passports and travel documents issued in the Member States.

The following documents are not accepted as an identity document: foreign identity card, Swedish provisional passports, seaman's passport, alien's passports and diplomatic passports.

EligibilityEdit

For you to get to renew your driver's license in Sweden, you must be a permanent resident here or have studied in Sweden for at least six months. You can also, in some cases, renew your Swedish driving license if you are resident abroad.

Payment of Transport Agency fees

You should first use the pre-printed payment slip that Transport Agency provides, and specify the OCR number if the payment is done over internet. OCR (Optical Character Reading) is a series of numbers that are used to enable the payee to know who has paid a particular bill.

Please do not submit proof of your payment. We get information about your payment directly from the bank.

Have it printed payment card come away you will find, for certain fees, OCR number on the letter or form that un-joined.

Your driver's license must be renewed every ten years if you have a driver's license with jurisdiction AM, A1, A2, A, B or BE. If you have a license with higher permissions (C1, C1E, C, CE, D1, D1E, D, DE) license must be renewed every five years to remain valid.

Processing TimeEdit

When both your application form and payment have come to the Transportation Board, it takes about five working days before you receive your new license.

InstructionsEdit

Make sure that you renew your license before it's validity has expired. In some cases, your renewal application is accompanied by a hlsodeklation and synintyg and in other cases with a medical certificate.

If you have not applied for renewal on time, you will receive an order to renew the license from the Transport Agency. You must submit your application (provided with a photograph and signature) to the Transportation Board within two months. Otherwise, the license will be invalidated.

If you have special circumstances, you can be granted more than two months to renew your license. You must request an extension from the Transport Agency before those two months are over.

If the license becomes invalid after a notice of renewal, you will receive a notification from the Transport Agency that you are no longer eligible to drive vehicles that require a license. If you need a new license, you must then apply for a learner's permit. You do not need a new driving test, but a new license must be made before you can drive again.
