Need for the DocumentEdit

After being granted a residence permit, you will receive a residence permit card which proves that you have permission to be in Sweden. The card is embedded with a microchip that contains your fingerprints and photograph.

Following is a procedure on how you can obtain a residence permit card in Sweden.

Information which might helpEdit

The residence permit card includes, among other things, details about which type of permit you have received and the validity period of your card. The card also bears your personal details. The reverse of certain cards states Can work. This applies for cases where it is not directly evident from your decision that you are entitled to work, for example, for those who have received a permanent residence permit. However, if you have received a work permit in Sweden then your decision will state that you have received a work permit and therefore the reverse of your card will not contain the text Can work. For children the text will be included on the card as of the age of 16.

Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit

The residence permit card replaces the sticker in your passport. The sticker expires on 20 May 2015 and you will no longer be able to enter and leave the Schengen area without a residence permit card.

When you travel, show the card along with your passport. The card cannot be used as an identification document or travel document.
