Procedure

To obtain a table license:

• You must be 20 years of age or older and show that you are suitable for conducting these activities in light of your personal and financial circumstances. This means that you must be and have been financially responsible in recent years, and you may not have been convicted of any crime in recent years.
• You will also need to take a test to show that you have knowledge of Sweden's alkohollagen (Alcohol Act). The municipality processes your application and is responsible for this testing being carried out.

What is a table license?

You will need to obtain a table license if you own a business that involves serving alcoholic beverages. A table licence can apply to the serving of alcohol to both the public and private parties, for serving all year round or annually for a certain period of time (permanent table license); or for a particular time period or an individual occasion (temporary table license).

A table licence is not required if the serving of alcohol:

• is not for profit and at no additional cost to the participants than the cost of the purchase of the beverages
• is in premises where there are no professional sales of alcohol or low-alcohol beverages
• is to persons designated in advance and on a single occasion.

Note: All of the conditions above must be met in order for the serving to take place without a licence.
