Sudan - Apply for a Dual Citizenship

1.The applicant should start by visiting the immigration office to find out what is required and the procedure of obtaining Sudanese citizenship;
2.The applicant then goes ahead to prepare the entire required document. At this stage the applicant is argued to ensure all documents required are in a recognized language and if not documents must be translated and certified as true copies;
3.Thereafter the applicant proceeds with obtaining a citizenship application form and in this case, the applicant should ensure that the obtained application form is the right one prescribed for the type of citizenship he / she needs to obtain. The applicant then fills the form carefully and accurately;
4.After filling form, the then submits together with the required documents to the citizenship issuing department;
5.When documents are received, the issuing authority examines and assesses them and if necessary inquiry / investigation about the applicant is done and the applicant may be called for an interview or he /she may be asked for addition information and addition documents if required;
6.If the documents are approved the applicant must then make payment for any prescribed fees;
7.And thereafter citizenship is granted;
8.When citizenship is granted, applicants for citizenship by naturalization and by marriage shall have to make an oath of allegiance;
9.Thereafter a certificate of naturalization is issued to the applicant;

- Applicants must be twenty one (21) years and above.
- Other eligibility requirements vary basing on the type of citizenship the applicant wishes to acquire and is detailed as below:
- Citizenship by Marriage: A foreign woman married to a Sudan citizen is eligible
- Citizenship by Birth: a child born in Sudan to unknown parents;
- Citizenship by descent: A child born to a parent (either father or mother) or both parents of Sudanese Nationality;
- Citizenship by naturalization: An applicant must be a foreigner who has resided in the country continuously for a period of more than five (5) years;

- Dual citizenship is not recognized in Sudan;
- Applicant must be ready to renounce any other citizenship held;
- Applicants for citizenship by naturalization must have resided in the country continuously for a period of more than five (5) years;
- Applicants must be a legal adult;
- Applicants for naturalization must know and understand the Arabic language;
- Applicants must be of good moral character with no criminal record;
- Applicant must have an interest in staying in the country permanently;
- Applicants for citizenship by naturalization must be in good health;
- Applicants must be ready to declare loyalty to the country;
- Applicants for citizenship by marriage should ensure that marriage should be according to the Sudanese law;
- Applicants for citizenship by marriage an applicant should have been in marriage for at least two (2) years;
- Children may be included on an application for citizenship;
- Applicants for citizenship by naturalization are only issued with a citizenship certificate after an oath of allegiance is taken;
- A person granted citizenship shall not have a right as a Sudanese national until after three (3) years from date of granting nationality;
- Applicants abroad may apply through the Sudanese embassy or consular offices in your home or neighbouring countries;

Citizenship is an act of being a citizen of a given country. Sudan citizenship refers to the act of being a citizen of the country; citizenship in Sudan is obtained through submitting application to the immigration department under the Ministry of Interior. Sudan does not recognize Sudan Nationality; therefore any foreigner who wishes to apply for Sudan citizenship must be read to renounce 1st citizenship
