Apply In Person:
- For a nurse/midwife to practice in South Sudan he or she should be registered and licensed with the Nurses and Midwives Council of South Sudan (NAMCOSS), Registry Office. It is the responsibility of the Council to ensure that all nurses/midwifery that are within its jurisdiction meet a certain level of competence before starting their practice NAMCOSS Contact Details
- All nurses and midwives must collect the Council-approved and stamped Application Form to complete the registration exercise. Application forms will cost a fee which will be payable upon registration; copies of this form are also downloadable via the NAMCOSS website Membership Registration or directly download via this link Nurse and Midwives Registration Form
- Upon obtaining the registration form, carefully complete the forms with appropriate information under relevant sections, once completed applicant should attest their signature under the declaration section.
- Attach all the relevant supporting documentation as listed under the “Required Documents” section below, before submitting the complete dossier for verification and processing to the Nursing and Midwifery Registry Office either in person or sent via this council email address [email protected]
- Upon receipt of the application, the registrar shall forward all received registration files for assessment and processing. The registrar will not take responsibility for an incomplete application and shall be denied
- All application forms will be reviewed by the Council-appointed registration Committee within six (6) weeks of submission but may depend on the volume of applications being reviewed by the Council at the said time. The Council will endeavor, however, to inform the applicant if there is a delay in the review process beyond this time period.
- Once the application is reviewed and approved by the Committee, the applicant will be informed and requested two make all payments for all applicable fees. Please refer to this page’s “Fees” section for more information.
- Once all payments have been made, the registration certificate and Professional ID Card will be issued. An applicant could authorize someone to make a payment and collect a registration certificate on his or her behalf. But if you send someone to collect for you, you suppose to write a letter to the registrar’s office so as to authorize him/her. Give the letter to the one whom you want to collect for you, and he/she will bring it to the office.
- All application forms and copies of documents will be maintained by the Council for file and records.
- The applicant will also be required to maintain a Continuous Professional Development logbook for re-registration after 4 years.

EligibilityEdit
- To be of good reputation and commendable conduct.
- To have never been sentenced in a felony or misdemeanor (for a custodial penalty in a crime involving moral turpitude or breach of trust, unless rehabilitated in either case). In short, not to have a criminal record.
- To have attained one of the following academic degrees:
- A Bachelor of Science in Nursing from one of South Sudan’s high institutes, or an equivalent degree elsewhere than in South Sudan, which the Council recognizes as equivalent to the qualification by examination required by the Council.
- A Diploma from a healthcare institute affiliated with the Ministry of Health/Council (nursing division) or an equivalent degree.

- Registration Application forms: 200 SSP
- Registration fees (long-term foreign workers): 100 USD
- Registration Fee (short-term foreign workers: 50 USD
- Replacement of lost Registration Certificate: 50 USD / 500 SSP
- Registration fees (South Sudanese nationals): 500 SSP
- Verification of Certificates: 100 USD

- Re-registration shall be after 4 years unless suspended, cancelled, or evoked by the Council, and shall be subjected to renewal and payment of an annual practice fee, this should be submitted on time before the lapse of the current license, to allow enough time for due process to be completed.

- The Nurses and Midwives Council of South Sudan was established by Ministerial Decree Number 005/2018, under the Ministry of Health and launched in November 2018. One of the main functions in the Terms of Reference of the Council is the registration of nurses and midwives in the country.
- A person who is registered under the Council and the Decree shall be entitled to:
- Have his name entered on the nurses and midwives register;
- Could use the title of “registered nurse”, “registered midwife”, “enrolled nurse, or “enrolled midwife” or any abbreviation thereof against his or her name as approved by the Council.

Need for the DocumentEdit
- Each nurse practicing in Niger is required to be registered and licensed with the Nurses and Midwives Council of South Sudan Office.
- It is illegal to employ a Nurse or Midwife not registered with the Council or who does not have a valid practicing certificate.
Types of Registration
- Full Registration is when the holder is registered to practice nursing or midwifery at the required level for a period of four years unless such registration is suspended or revoked by the Authority.
- Temporary Registration is when the holder is registered to practice nursing or midwifery for not more than one year unless such registration is suspended or revoked By the Authority.

The following categories of nurses and midwives will be registered:
- Registered Nurse (RN) – a person who has successfully completed the prescribed course of studies in nursing for a minimum period of 3years and is qualified and authorized to practice nursing;
- Registered Midwives – means a person who has successfully completed the prescribed course of studies in midwifery for a minimum period of 3 years as direct entry and or who holds a post-basic (registered) nursing certificate in midwifery for not less than one year and is qualified and authorized to practice midwifery;
- Enrolled Nurse – a person who has completed not less than two years and five months of a recognized basic nursing education programme and is qualified and authorized to practice nursing under the supervision of a registered nurse;
- Enrolled Midwives – a person who has completed not less than two years and five months of a recognized basic midwifery educational programme and is qualified and authorized to practice midwifery under the supervision of a registered midwife.
