Apply In Person:

  1. To Apply for Citizenship, the applicant has to approach the Ministry Of Interior link
  2. Before applying for citizenship in Sudan, ensure that you meet the eligibility criteria set by the Sudanese government. This may include residency requirements, age restrictions, and other criteria specific to Sudanese citizenship.
  3. Collect the necessary documents for your citizenship application. The specific documents required may vary, but generally, you will need:

EligibilityEdit

A person shall be considered a Sudanese National by birth, if at the time of the coming into force of this Act

  • he or she has been domiciled in Sudan since 1.1.1957; or
  • if any of his or her parents or grandparents have been domiciled in Sudan since 1.1.1957

A person born after the commencement of this Act, shall be a South Sudanese National by birth if his or her father or mother was a Sudanese National by birth or naturalization at the time of the birth of such a person.

A person who is or was first found in Sudan as a deserted infant of unknown Parents shall,until the contrary is proved, be deemed to be a Sudanese National by birth.

Sudanese citizenship may be acquired upon fulfillment of the following conditions: Person is a legal adult, has resided in Sudan for 10 years, knows the Arabic language, is of good morality, has committed no crimes, desires to remain in the country, renounces previous citizenship, is in good health, and declares loyalty to the country. Spouses, widows and widowers of Sudan citizens (if the applicant is married for at least 5 years.). Lawful residents (those who have been ordinarily resident in South Sudan for a period of Five years) Children and persons with disabilities (made for the biological or legally adopted children of Sudan citizens) Stateless and migrant persons (persons who voluntarily migrated to Southern Sudan before 1st January,1957 and/or have continuously lived in Sudan)

Descendants of stateless and migrant persons (persons who have attained the age of eighteen years and whose parents had voluntarily migrated to Sudan before 1st January, 1957 and or has continuously lived in Sudan)

1.Citizenship has no validity period

2.However, a person can be voluntarily renounced Sudan citizenship or citizenship may be revoked if the holder acts contrary to the laws of the country.

InstructionsEdit

1. An applicant must be of good character;

2.Applicants must be twenty one (18) years and above;

3.Continuously stayed in S Sudan for a period of five years before the date of application;

4.In a period of Five (5) years before the commencement of the required period, an applicant must have stayed in the country for a total of Five (5) years;

5.The Five (5) years does not included the required twelve (12) months prior to submission of application;

6.Applicant must be involved in the Sudan culture and can speak Arabic fluently;

7.At the time of application, an applicant must have adequate knowledge and must be able to speak either the local Language or English;

8.Applicant must renounce any other citizenship before applying for Sudan citizenship;

9.An applicant must have contributed to the national development, advancement or welfare of the country;

10.Must be ready to be a permanent resident of Sudan;

11.Application for citizenship for minors must be submitted by parents(s) or guardian(s)

12.Parent(s) / guardian(s) submitting application on behalf of minors should be citizen(s) of Sudan;

13.Must be mental and physically normal;

Need for the DocumentEdit

Citizenship is based upon the Law of Sudanese Nationality #22, dated 1957, Law #55, dated 1970, and Law #47, dated 1972. Sudanese citizenship requirements are outlined in the Law of Sudanese Nationality and the Interim National Constitution of the Republic of the Sudan. Presently, South Sudan and North Sudan are separate countries with different statutes concerning citizenship. Despite the split,North Sudan still maintains the old existing until replaced by newly enacted ones in the future.
