ProcedureEdit

1.When a refugee arrives in the country, he / she must look for the nearest refugee registration centre. These centres are usually situated in different provinces where an Assistant Commissioner appointed by the Minister of Interior is situated with the duty to act on behalf of the Commissioner for Refugees;

2.At the registration centre, the applicant is required to present identification documents and also give detailed information about him / herself;

3.All applications for asylum and the names of all the refugees who report to the authority upon entry into a particular region are recorded in a register and copies of the register are sent to the Commissioner;

4.When the commissioner reviews details recoded and thereafter forwards them to the Minister of Interior to make decisions on submitted applications;

5.When the Minister receives the application, he / she reviews the submitted document and information and he / she decided to either grant or not grant the refugee status to the applicant within a period of not more than one (1) month. In case where one (1) month elapses before the Minister makes decision on a submitted application, an applicant in the country is granted asylum for a period of three (3) months after which the applicants application is reviewed and assessed again ;

6.When the Minister approves application of the refugee is approved, he / she is registered and granted status for a renewable period of five (5) years;

7.Upon registration, the Commissioner for Refugees through the assistant commissions issues identity cards to all registered applicants refugee which are always valid for the granted period of stay in the country and are renewable as period of stay is renewed;

Refugee Identity Card fees range from 7 to 20 Sudanese pounds (about $3 to $9)



ValidityEdit

1.The ministry of interior grants asylum for a period of five (5) years

2.Applicant whose applications are not processed within one month are granted for a period of three (3) months

3.Status of five (5) years and three (3) months can be renewed upon expiration

4.Refugee Identity Card as granted period of stay in the country

InstructionsEdit

1.Applicants must know that refugees in Sudan cannot become permanent residents;

2.Applicants must also know that despite they period they reside in the country, refugees cannot be naturalized;

3.Applicants are argues to avoiding giving false documents and avoid submitting false documents;

4.An applicant must have a well built and genuine cause of fear;

5.The cause of fear must not be related to committing crime against humanity;

6.Applicants must be ready to abide by the rules and regulations of the country;

7.Refugees who may want to stay in the country after expiration of refugee documentations are argued to apply for renewal in the given period of time;

8.Renewal of refugee documents can only be done by refugees in their respective camps;

9.Refugee can only move to the capital for educational, medical need, and family reunification purposes and it should be with authorization from authority;

10.Refugees are not allowed to leave the camps assigned to them;

11.A refugee violates law by leaving the assigned camp shall be punished by law which allows imprisonment for up to one (1) year to such crime;

12.Approved refugees with valid identity cards must obtain permits from the Department of Labour in order to be able to work in the country legally;

13.Refugee without valid identity card cannot obtain work permits;

14.Refugee students and children of refugee have a right to study from any Sudanese elementary schools;

15.All refugees (with or without legal documents) have a right to access Sudanese health care centers;

16.Refugees can also own bank accounts;

17.Refugees cannot own immovable property but are not restricted on acquiring movable property;

18.Refugees can also apply for passports from the Minister of Interior;

19.An applicant can include spouse and children (if any) on an application form;

Need for the DocumentEdit

Asylum is a form of protection given to a foreigner whose is running away from home country due presence of war / insecurity or due to fear of persecution; a foreigner who applies for asylum, he / she is seeking refugee status in a foreign country. Matters relating to asylum seekers and refugees in Sudan are handled by the government through the Ministry of Interior together with partnering world organizations which appoints the Sudan Commissioner for Refugees.



Information which might helpEdit

In cases where the minister does not make decision on / approve a submitted application within one (1) month and the applicant is granted asylum for three (3) months, the Minister in the due course of processing application may forwards copies of such application to different foreign missions and other countries to see if they can accept application. If no country accepts application within three (3) months initially granted, the minister grants another three (3) which he / she keeps on renewing until a country accepts application and if no country accepts application at all, the minister makes his own decision;
