Procedure

The Documento nacional de identidad (DNI) or carné de identidad is Spanish national identity card. Foreigners legally resident in Spain or who intend to purchase property are issued with a Número de identificación de extranjero (NIE) or Foreign Identification Number.

HOW TO APPLY

1. An appointment must be requested in advance using the appointment booking system on the website:Appointment
2. Visit the police station in your area of residency in person and fill the application form for a (DNI)
3. All minors must be accompany by a parent or guardian and in case of disable person a mobile team will be allocated to that person residency
4. Submit the filled application form together with all the required documents to the officer.

   NB : Applicant must submit an official birth certificate for DNI issued by the authorized Civil Registry within the 6 months prior to the DNI application date.

5. Biometric information will be done in case of renewal person of 18 year i.e. fingerprints and signature of the applicant
6. Biometric verification will be applied in cases of removal, loss, or damage, in addition to duly filled application form with photograph, signature and fingerprint is a must.
7. Pay the recommended fee and you shall be issued the (DNI) the same day

Required Documents

• Original birth certificate issued by the Civil Registrar concerned
• Certificate of registration of Spanish nationality, which is issued stating that the sole purpose of obtaining DNI.
• One recent color photograph of the face of the applicant (32 by 26 mm) with white uniform and smooth background (completely uncovered face)
• Registration certificate or wheel of the City where the applicant is domiciled (issued no earlier than three months from the date of the application of DNI)
  
  

In case of disability, the following are needed:

• Official medical certificate to confirm the disability status and demographic data
  
• Photocopy of the ID of the dependent or disabled
  
  

Note: Certifications are accepted only if issued no earlier than six months from the date of filing of the application for the National Identity.

Fees

Validity

Depending on holder's age, the card has a validity

• Five years - if the holder has turned thirty at the time of issuance or renewal
• .Ten years - if the holder has turned thirty and has not reached seventy.
• Permanent - if the holder has attained seventy years.

• The Documento nacional de identidad (DNI) or carné de identidad is Spanish national identity card. It is a laminated card or polycarbonate, which details the name and surnames of the holder, date of birth, address, parents, sex, residential address, city and province of birth, and contains a photograph (size 32 by 26 mm, with plain white uniform background, taken from the front with the head completely uncovered and without dark glasses and any items which may prevent or hinder the identification of the person) and an identification number consisting of 8 digits plus a control letter. This number is also used for tax purposes, receiving the name of Número de identificación fiscal (NIF).
• They used to contain a fingerprint from the holder's right-hand forefinger, but they no longer do.
• The DNI is enough to visit and register as a resident in the member countries of the EEA and Switzerland. It can also be used for short-term visits in the rest of Europe (except Belarus, Russia and Ukraine) as well as Georgia, Montserrat (max. 14 days), Turkey and organized tours to Tunisia.
