  1. To Apply for the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP), the applicant has to approach the Department of Education link
  2. The applicant must first enroll in an approved higher education program at an eligible institution in Australia. This could include universities, TAFEs (Technical and Further Education institutes), or other approved higher education providers.
  3. Once you are enrolled, the institution will provide you with a Commonwealth Assistance Notice (CAN), which outlines the cost of your tuition fees and the type of assistance you are eligible for.
  4. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
  5. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  6. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  7. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  8. Carefully review the HECS-HELP form, ensuring that all the information is accurate and complete. Sign the form to confirm your understanding and agreement with the terms and conditions of the loan.
  9. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned office mailing address.
  10. The mailing address is mentioned in the “Office Locations & Contacts” section of this page.
  11. There is no fee for Higher Education Loan Program.
  12. After receiving the document set, the concerned authority will check the submitted letter and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  13. Then the application will be processed further.
  14. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
  15. Once approved, you will receive confirmation of your HELP loan, and the loan amount will be applied directly to your tuition fees.
  16. This entire process can be completed within 15 – 30 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

The applicant may be eligible to apply for the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) in Australia if you meet the following criteria:

  • You must be an Australian citizen, permanent humanitarian visa holder, or New Zealand Special Category Visa (SCV) holder who meets the long-term residency requirements.
  • You must be enrolled in a Commonwealth-supported place (CSP) at an eligible higher education provider.

  • You must not have exceeded your HELP loan limit.
