Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for a Driver licence card renewal in person, the applicant should visit the nearest Driving License Testing Centre (DLTC).
  2. The contact links for each province in South Africa are listed in the “Office Locations & Contacts” section of this page. Please click the link of your province and look for a nearest Municipality according to your location.
  3. Visit the nearest DLTC and obtain the application form for Driver licence card renewal from the respective department.
  4. Else, click on the following link to download the application form: Link
  5. Make sure all the documents listed in the “Required documents” section of this page when you visit the DLTC.
  6. Proceed to fill the application form as applicable to your requirement. Also, complete the notification of change of address or particulars of person or organisation (NCP) form, at the DLTC premises.
  7. Now, submit both the forms and required documents at the concerned department in the DLTC.
  8. Then, an eye test for the applicant will be conducted at the testing centre and also your fingerprints will be recorded. You will have to pay the prescribed fees for the application.
  9. After all the verification and validation processes got over, you will be issued your new driving license card with prior notification.



Apply Online
The National Traffic Information System of South Africa instructs only Gauteng residents to apply online for their renewal of driving licenses.

  1. The link of online portal for driving license renewal application is as follows: Link
  2. Visit the link and click on “Book now for Driving License Test” option.
  3. You will be redirected to a page where you can apply for a driving license renewal.
  4. You will have to fill all the fields under the tabs “License Type and category” and “Identify Applicant”.
  5. Then click on “Next” button to proceed. In the further steps, do as directed and proceed to apply for driving license card renewal.
  6. Then submit your application online. Proceed to pay the prompted fees. Visit the DLTC on the intimated date and time to attend your eye test.
  7. Your fingerprints will be taken at the DLTC and an eye test will be conducted at the premises.
  8. When your license card is ready for collection, you will be notified after which you can visit the DLTC where you gave the test and collect your driving license.

  • Proof of postal and residential address (Utility bill)
  • Receipt of application fee
  • Affidavit confirming the applicant’s residence (in case of lack of utility account)

  • Any person whose driver license card is about to expire can apply for renewal of the particular license card.
  • Any person, whose driver license card has expired, can also apply along with an application for a temporary driver license card.

InstructionsEdit

  • You must renew your driving licence card four weeks before its expiry date. If you renew it after the expiry date, you will have to apply for a temporary driving licence at an additional cost while waiting for your driving licence to be issued.
  • You will undergo eye testing at the testing centre. Alternatively, you can have your eyes tested by an optometrist and submit the report at the driving licence testing centre (DLTC).
  • If your sight has worsened from the date on which your licence was issued, new conditions will be attached to your licence.
