Apply In-Person:
- To apply for Registration of Speciality in Probation Services, the applicant must go to the South African Council of Social Service Professions (SACSSP) office. Contact Link
- The application form “R.4. SW. 1 – APPLICATION FOR REGISTRATION – SPECIALITY IN SOCIAL WORK” must be obtained from the authorities at the SACSSP office, or else it should be downloaded from the website. Application Form Link
- Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The copy of the application form along with the required documents should be submitted to the Registrar in the SACSSP office.
- If the applicant’s postal address is not a residential address/street address, then the applicant should send the application form and the required documents by registered mail or by courier to the Registrar in the SACSSP.
- After that the application will be verified by the registrar, and if the details provided and the supporting documents submitted are legitimate, then the registration will be approved by the Registrar.
- If the applicant’s application is approved, the Social Worker specialisation in Probation Services registration certificate and the registration card will be issued to the applicant.
- The details of the registered Social Worker (Probation Services) will be updated in the “Register of persons registered” register for the public references.
- The registration fee must be paid while submitting the application, and the proof of payment must be attached to the application form.

- Each step of the application process and the processing time will be updated on time to the applicant via email, SMS, or as a feedback mail from the SACSSP team.

- Proof of identity such as
- A certified copy of identity document (ID) or passport or residence permit indicating full names and surname, date of birth or age, and Identity number/passport number acceptable to the SACSSP.
- Proof of marital status (if married) such as
- A certified copy of the marriage certificate of a person who is married (should you wish to register in your married surname).
- Proof of qualifications such as
- A certified copies of documentary proof of the qualification(s) in social work on the basis of which you apply for registration.
- Portfolio of Evidence such as:
- Proof of registration
- Proof of your current registration as a social worker with Council.
- Qualification(s)
- A certified copy of relevant post graduate qualification(s) (including accredited short courses, certificates, diplomas or degrees) applicable to the speciality in social work.
- A motivation letter regarding the appropriateness or relevance these qualifications to the speciality in social work.
- Narrative of work experience.
- Narrative of two to three pages (typed) of your work experience, showing how this experience is relevant or appropriate to the speciality in social work for which registration is being requested.
- Summary table of work experience
- A description of relevant or appropriate work experience in table format with columns indicating (a) site or place of work, (b) years or months of relevant work and (c) nature of work to show relevance or appropriateness to the field of the speciality in social work.
- Letter confirming relevant work experience.
- A signed letter from the supervisor, relevant consultant or manager confirming years of experience in the area of the speciality in social work.
- Proof of registration
- Note:
- All copies of ID documents should be clear, and should not be older than 6 months.

- The Social Worker registration certificate (specialisation in Probation Services) and registration card is mandatory document to perform as a social worker specialising in Probation Services in South Africa. Because practicing as a Social Worker without registration is an illegal act.
