Apply In Person

  1. To Registration as a Learner Nurse or Midwife, the applicant has to approach the South Africa Nursing Council link
  2. The applicant needs to apply to a nursing education institution that offers a nursing or midwifery program. The institution must be accredited by the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
  3. The applicant must complete a nursing or midwifery program at the institution where the applicant has been accepted. The program must be approved by the SANC.
  4. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer or it can be downloaded from the following link
  5. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  6. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  7. The applicant has to attach photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting it.
  8. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
  9. The fee payable by the learner for registration is R273-00
  10. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  11. Then the application will be processed further.
  12. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application to be invited to attend an oath-taking ceremony.
  13. This ceremony is a formal declaration of the commitment to upholding the standards of the nursing profession.
  14. This entire process can be completed within 3- 4 weeks or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.
