Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for re-registering a De-Registered or Cancelled Vehiclein person, the applicant has to visit the nearest Registering authority in his/her province.
  2. The contact links for each province in South Africa are listed in the “Office Locations & Contacts” section of this page. Please click the link of your province and look for a nearest Municipality in your location.
  3. Contact the Municipality and get details about nearest Registering authority according to your location.
  4. Visit the nearest Registering authority and obtain theApplication forregistration and licensing of motor vehicle (RLV) form. Or click to download: Link
  5. Make sure that you have all the documents listed in the “Required documents” section of this page.
  6. Now, complete the application form with appropriate information about you and your vehicle for which registrationis sought.
  7. Specify in the application form the type of motor vehicle for which registration has to be done. Also, pay the prompted fees at the office.
  8. Attach the required documents with the application and submit it to the concerned authority at the Registering authority.
  9. Then, the application will be forwarded to the provincial helpdesk for the introduction of the motor vehicle record on the system.
  10. Once the vehicle is registered and the introduction of the motor vehicle record is done, the applicant will be instructed to collect the license disc from the authority.

  • Any individual, who wants to re-register an already De-Registered or Cancelled motor vehicle, can apply.
  • Any motor vehicle in a South African Republic should be registered in the Department of Transport and obtained a license disc, to be driven on roads.

InstructionsEdit

  • To re-register a pre-owned (used) vehicle, ensure that the seller had completed and submitted a Notification of change of ownership (NCO) form, which gives notification of change of ownership.
  • In case of a vehicle built up from parts, after introduction of vehicle record on eNaTIS, a request for police clearance (form RPC) must be submitted and a roadworthy test must be performed on the vehicle.

  • License number, Vehicle register number and Chassis number/VIN of the motor vehicle
  • Make and Series name of the motor vehicle


Need for the DocumentEdit

  • Any de-registered or cancelled vehicle owned by a person living inside the Republic of South Africa must obtain a license disc once again if he/she wants that vehicle to be driven on South African roads.
