South Africa - Online Submit Tax Return (Personal Income Tax)

Apply through eFiling :

Step 1 : First one has to make sure that all the required documents are in hand to apply online. If you would like to know about the documents that are required for this procedure, please visit the following link : Required Documents to Submit Tax Return (Personal Income Tax)
Step 2 : To apply for submitting a tax return online, visit the official website of the South African Revenue Service by clicking the following link: Apply online.
Step 3 : Visit the link and click on the “Login” button which is highlighted in “Red” in the below image.

Step 4 : Now enter the "Username", click “Next” button which is highlighted in “Red” in the below image and enter "Password", click “Next” button.

Step 5 : After logging in, you can proceed to change the registered particulars with the help of the supporting documents that you have prepared.
Step 6 : Click “SARS Registered Details” option on the left side menu in the homepage and upload the changed documents in the portal or do as prompted to change the registered particulars.
Step 7 : Otherwise, in the page that appears click “Register” button on the top of the page. In registration page, enter the personal details and click “Next” button. In next page, enter contact and login details and click “Next” button.
Step 8 : Since you a new applicant, you have to provide your personal information in next page. Fill the mandatory fields and click “Submit” button.
Step 9 : The “Registration Request Received” message will appear and your case number will be displayed which you should use to follow up on your registration case.
Step 10 : Click “continue” button to proceed to upload documents or “save for later” button to continue this process later.
Step 11 : If you click “continue” button, you will be redirected to a page where you can upload the required documents by clicking “Upload” button, after uploading click “Submit” button.
Step 12 : Confirm submission dialogue will appear. Click “Continue”button if you are sure or “cancel” button if you want to recheck.
Step 13 : After this, you will be redirected to the beginning page. You can click “Query status” button to check the status of application.
Step 14 : The application is in progress and you will be prompted to upload more required documents in your work page.
Step 15 : Upload the relevant and required documents as instructed and click “Submit” button and complete the registration process as prompted.
Step 16 : Once your documents have been validated the “Complete Registration” button will be displayed on your Registration Work page.
Step 17 : Click on “Complete Registration” button. You will be prompted to select your preferred method of communication for eFiling security purposes.
Step 18 : Select either ‘Cell number’ option or ‘Email’ option and click “Continue” button.The One Time Pin (OTP) page will be displayed which requests you to complete the last 6 digits of your OTP sent through to your preferred method of communication.
Step 19 : Complete the OTP and click on “Submit” button. If the OTP completed is correct, a message will be displayed indicating you are now registered for eFiling.
Step 20 : Upon completion of your registration, you are now required to login to the SARS eFiling website by making use of your Username and Password.
Step 21 : On the Welcome page, complete your Username and Password click on “Login”button. Once you have logged in, you will be presented with the Terms and Conditions of eFiling. Once noted and are in agreement with the SARS eFiling Terms and Conditions, click on “I Accept” button.
Step 22 : After logging in, locate the “Tax Returns” menu among the available menus and click on it. Then click on ITR12 option from the Tax Returns menu.
Step 23 : Income tax wizard will open with ITR12 return form. Complete the ITR12 form as required with necessary details and upload the supporting documents as applicable by following the on-screen instructions.
Step 24 : Once completed, click “Submit” button and submit the completed IT return. After submitting, a work page will appear denoting the status of your income tax return as ‘Filed’.
