Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for a local fishing vessel license in person, the applicant has to visit the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
  2. The address and contact details of the office can be found in the following link: Link
  3. Visit the office and obtain an Application for a local fishing vessel licence from the Fisheries Department.
  4. Make sure that you have all the documents listed in the “Required documents” section of this page.
  5. Complete the form as required with relevant details under respective sections. After completing the application form, attach the required documents with the completed form.
  6. Then, proceed to submit the certified copies of the required documents to the relevant authority at the office in person for further processes. Make the necessary payment as directed.
  7. Also, the application can be sent to the Postal address of the Fisheries department in the DAFF office and the required fees can be deposited in cash or by means of an Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT).
  8. In such cases, the applicant will have to fax the proof of payment to the Customer Service Centre of DAFF and request confirmation of payment.
  9. After submission, the completed form and corresponding documents will be put into further verification and validation processes.
  10. Once all the processes got completed, the authorities will perform necessary actions for the issuance process of the fishing vessel license.

EligibilityEdit

  • Any person living in south Africa, who wants to perform fishing locally, shall apply for a Local Fishing Vessel license for his/her fishing vessel.
  • Any South African with full ownership and control of the vessel (for which license is sought), can apply.
  • A body corporate, society or other association registered in South Africa in which a South African controls the majority of shares and voting rights is eligible to apply.
