Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for a foreign fishing vessel license in person, the applicant has to visit the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
  2. The address and contact details of the office can be found in the following link: Link
  3. Visit the office and obtain an Application for a foreign fishing vessel licence from the Fisheries Department.
  4. Make sure that you have all the documents listed in the “Required documents” section of this page.
  5. Complete the form as required with relevant details under respective sections. After completing the application form, attach the required documents with the completed form.
  6. Then, proceed to submit the application package to the relevant authority at the office in person for further processes. Make the necessary payment as directed.
  7. Also, the application can be sent to the Postal address of the Fisheries department in the DAFF office.
  8. After submission, the completed form and corresponding documents will be put into further verification and validation processes.
  9. Once all the processes got completed, the authorities will perform necessary actions for the issuance process of the fishing vessel license.

EligibilityEdit

  • Any person who wants his/her fishing vessel that is registered with another country’s flag state (not South Africa), can apply.
  • The applicant must have a joint venture with a South African fishing right holder to get his/her vessel licensed.

  • You must complete an application form for a catch permit according to the sector in which the vessel will fish. If you want the vessel to fish on the high seas during the charter period, you must complete the High Seas application form.
