Apply In-Person:
- To apply for a fish processing establishment permit in person, the applicant has to visit the Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries.

- Visit the office and obtain an Application for a fish processing establishment permit from the Fisheries Department. Or click to download: Link
- Make sure that you have all the documents listed in the “Required documents” section of this page.
- Complete the form as required with relevant details under respective sections. After completing the application form, attach the required documents with the completed form.
- Then, proceed to submit the application package to the relevant authority at the office in person for further processes. Make the necessary payment as directed.
- Also, the application can be sent to the Postal address of the Fisheries department in the office.
- After submission, the completed form and corresponding documents will be put into further verification and validation processes.
- Once all the processes got completed, the authorities will perform necessary actions for the issuance process of the fish processing establishment permit.

EligibilityEdit
- Any person living in South Africa and wants to establish a fish processing unit can apply.
- The applicant can only apply for a Fish Processing Establishment permit if he/she possesses a valid fishing right.

ValidityEdit
You must renew the permit annually. Failure to adhere to permit conditions may result in the suspension, cancellation or revocation of the permit.

InstructionsEdit
- Before applying for an FPE permit, you need to apply for a Fishing right for which you must go to the distribution centre announced in the Gazette when an invitation is published in the Government Gazette.
- Read the application form carefully and make sure that you can satisfy the requirements and conditions. Pay a non-refundable prescribed fee announced in the Gazette.
- To apply for an exemption, you have to complete a detailed motivation in writing. Under exceptional circumstances, the Minister will approve an FPE exemption. If an FPE exemption is granted, you must apply for a permit to operate an FPE.
- If the fish is intended for human consumption, you must obtain a certificate of acceptability for food premises from the nearest local or provincial authority and attach a certified copy of the original to the application.
