Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for a Certificate of Occupancy, the applicant must visit the Municipality office of the concerned area in South Africa Link
  2. The application form should be obtained from the authorities at Municipality office in the concerned location.
  3. Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  4. The filled application form and the required documents must be submitted to the officials at the Municipality office.
  5. Later, the application form will be verified on various factors, and if the details provided and the documents submitted are legitimate, then the occupancy certificate application will be approved by the Municipality department.
  6. After the approval, the applicant will be issued with the occupancy certificate by the Municipality.
  7. The prescribed application fee details will be intimated to the applicants while applying at the Municipality office.
  8. The processing to get the occupancy certificate will be intimated to the applicant while applying.

  • Any documentation from Town Planning regarding rezoning, building amendments or renovations.
  • An approved Site Development Plan (SDP). (If applicable)
  • Engineering Completion Certificate from a registered structural /civil engineer.
  • Roof Truss Certificate either from truss installer or the engineer.
  • IOPSA Certificate of Compliance (Institute of Plumbing South Africa) for all sewerage/plumbing/drainage work issued by a registered plumber.
  • Glazing Certificate.
  • Electrical Certificate of Compliance.
  • Fire Certificate. (For thatched roofs)
  • Other supporting documents requested by the officials. (If any)
