Apply In-Person:

  1. To Register for Community Sound Broadcasting Service, the applicant has to approach the respective Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) link
  2. The applicant has to submit the letter of intent to the officer by visiting the office.
  3. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
  4. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  5. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  6. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  7. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
  8. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
  9. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  10. An acknowledgement receipt will be provided. Please save it for future reference.
  11. Then the application will be processed further.
  12. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
  13. If the application is successful, the applicant will be required to attend a public hearing to present your proposed radio station to the public and answer any questions or concerns.
  14. If the application is approved, the applicant will receive a Private Radio Station License from ICASA.
  15. This license will include specific conditions and obligations that you must adhere to, such as broadcasting standards, compliance with regulations, and community participation.
  16. This entire process can be completed within 30 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.
