Procedure

Apply In Person:

1. To Apply for Passenger Tax, the applicant must go to the Customs and Excise branch office or to the O.R. Tambo International Airport.

2. The “Air Passenger Tax APT201” form must be downloaded from the official website, or else it can be obtained from the officials at the SARS office. Application Form Link - The form can be accessed with the Adobe reader or any with any online reader. No direct download is available.
3. Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
4. The application form must be filed with all the necessary details, and along with the necessary documents it must be submitted personally at the Customs and Excise branch office at the O.R. Tambo International Airport.
5. After verifying the application, the registration for the Air Passenger Tax registration will be approved by the officials.
6. The fee details for the application will be intimated to the applicant at the international airport while applying.
7. The processing time to register for the Air Passenger Tax will be intimated to the applicant while applying.

Eligibility

• All operators (airlines), duly appointed agents and charter companies of International Flights are eligible to apply for the air passenger tax at the Customs and Excise Branch Office at O.R. Tambo International Airport (ORTIA).

Fees

• The fee details for the air passenger tax registration will be intimated to the applicant while applying.

Validity

• The Air Passenger Tax registration is valid forever.
• After registration the applicant must pay the APT to SARS within 21 days at the end of the month during which the APT amount was collected.
