Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for a Disability Grant in person, the applicant has to visit the nearest local office of the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA).
  2. Please click the following link for the contact details of the SASSA office in your province: Link
  3. Visit the nearest office of SASSA and obtain the application form to apply for Disability Grant, from the respective department.
  4. Make sure that you have all the documents listed in the “Required documents” section of this page.
  5. Complete the application in front of the SASSA officer who issues the application form at the premises of the SASSA office itself, with required and relevant information.
  6. Now, submit the application with all the required documents to the SASSA official for further proceeding.
  7. You will be provided with a receipt as a proof of the application submission. Please keep it safe.
  8. After necessary verification and validation processes, if your application is approved, the grant which you applied for will be rewarded to you properly, from the date of the application.
  9. If your application is refused and you are not satisfied with the reason stated, the applicant can appeal to the Minister of Social Development, at the National office of the Department of Social Development.

EligibilityEdit

  • The person applying must be a South African citizen or permanent resident or refugee and living in South Africa at the time of application.
  • Any person with a physical or mental disability, who is not cared for in a state institution and he/she is between 18 and 59 years of age, is eligible to apply.
  • The income of the applicant should not exceed R78 120 if he/she is single or R156 240 if married and the applicant should not have assets worth more than R1 115 400 if he/she is single or R2 230 800 if he/she is married.

InstructionsEdit

  • In case of affidavits for absence of Identity documents, it should be on a standard SASSA format in the presence of a Commissioner of Oaths who is not a SASSA official.
  • In case of sworn statements for absence of Identity documents, it should be form reputable persons like councillor, traditional leader, social worker, religious minster, school principal who can acknowledge the applicant’s name and age.
