ProcedureEdit

  1. You have 8 days to inform the administrative unit that you have lost your identity card. You may use the contact information given below to inquire where can you submit your application to obtain a replacement card, and details of documents that you will need to submit.
  2. Submit a completed application together with your recent photo and other required documents.
  3. Pay the replacement fee.
  4. It will take the issuing authority at least 15 days to review your application.
  5. You will be informed when you will receive your new identity card.


For identity cards lost or stolen abroad

  1. You will need to immediately go to the nearest police station and report your stolen identity card.
  2. The police will ask you to provide details regarding the incident, when was the card lost/stolen and where.
  3. Do not forget to ask for a copy of the police report, you will need it when you apply for new identity card.
  4. After obtaining a police report, you will then need to inform the nearest diplomatic or consular representation of the Republic of Slovenia or an administrative unit within 8 days after returning to Slovenia about your lost/stolen identity card.

EligibilityEdit

  • You may obtain a replacement identity card in case you have lost your current one
  • You will also need to have your current card cancelled and obtain a new one in case:
    • you have changed your name or surname
    • changed your permanent residence
    • the photography does not show your true image;
    • card is damaged or defective and, therefore, no longer usable.



FeesEdit

Replacement fee: For the issuance of new identity card after the first misplacement, loss, theft or damage due to improper handling of the holder, you shall pay twice the value of the administrative fee and, upon each subsequent misplacement, during the five years preceding the submission of the application, four times the value of the administrative fee.



ValidityEdit

Identity cards have various period of validity:

  • 10 years if the citizen is 18 to 70 years old;
  • permanent if the citizen is older than 70 years;
  • 3 years if the child is younger than 3 years;
  • 5 years if the child is 3 to 18 years old;
  • 1 year if you have lost or missed more than two identity cards or they have been stolen from you in the period of 5 years before the submission of application, or if you are a citizen with temporary residence in the verification process of the permanent residence application.

InstructionsEdit

You can have your identity card replaced at any time, even before its expiration.

In the following cases, the identity card must be submitted to the administrative unit for destruction within 30 days:

  • change of the name or surname;
  • change of permanent residence;
  • the photography does not show your true image;
  • the citizenship of the Republic of Slovenia has ceased;
  • card is damaged or defective and, therefore, no longer usable.


Lost or stolen identity card

If your identity card is stolen or lost, you must inform the administrative unit within 8 days. If you have lost your card abroad you must inform the nearest diplomatic or consular representation of the Republic of Slovenia or an administrative unit within 8 days after returning to Slovenia.
