Procedure

1. You can claim an extract of birth for yourself in person at the Registry Office. If you are obtaining the certificate for another person, you need his/her written authorisation. Note: The authorisation must contain information about the authorising person as well as information on the authorised person and authorising person's signature.
2. You may use the contact information given below to inquire where can you submit your application. When you submit your request at the Registry Office make sure that you have provided these important details which will make searching for the record easier:
   1. name of the person whose birth certificate you are requesting
   2. place and date of birth
   3. parents name
3. Pay for the certificate.

If you are outside Slovenia

You may use the link provided under "Office Locations & Contacts" to get in touch with the nearest Embassy of Slovenia in the country you are currently staying. The Embassy's consular section will be able to help process your request to obtain a copy of a birth certificate in Slovenia.

If you are obtaining the extract of birth for your minor child who has not reached the age of 18 as yet, a written authorisation is not required.

Other uses of the Document/Certificate

Birth and citizenship are proved by the extract from the central register of birth of the citizen.

In the central register of births, all births of Slovenian citizens in the Republic of Slovenia or abroad and all births of foreign citizens in the territory of the Republic of Slovenia are entered.

The extract contains:

• personal name;
• date and place of birth;
• unique personal identification number;
• sex;
• citizenship;
• data on parents.
