Slovenia - Exchange or Replace Foreign Driving License

ProcedureEdit

  1. Prior to the issuing of a driving licence, a competent administrative unit is obliged to acquire necessary information on driving licence from the authorities of a foreign country.
  2. Administrative unit notifies the authorities who issued the original driving licence of the issuing of a new driving licence.
  3. Fill up the application form.
  4. Submit all required documents and pay necessary fees.

Required DocumentsEdit

  1. Health certificate referred to in point 2 of Article 4 of Rules on driving licences, unless otherwise provided for by the law
  2. Valid foreign driving licence
  3. Certificate on completed practical part of the driving test passed before a competent examining board in the Republic of Slovenia
  4. Document confirming the payment of liabilities (administrative fee and other costs in relation to driving licence replacement).


  • Upon foreign driving licence replacement, it is not required to accompany applications by health certificate referred to in point 1 and certificate referred to in point 3 of the previous paragraph, provided that the driving licence was issued by one of the countries referred to in Article 17 of the Rules on driving licences or Switzerland. In response to the call by a competent administrative unit, persons must accompany applications referred to in the first paragraph by a certified translation of foreign driving licences and document confirming that they have resided a minimum of 6 months abroad, if so provided for by the law.

EligibilityEdit

Driving licence is granted to individuals who have successfully passed the driving test. Motor vehicle driving licence is valid until the age of 80; henceforth, it may be extended on the basis of a medical examination for a maximum of 3 years.

In accordance with the provisions of Article 17 of the Rules on driving licences, a new driving licence is issued upon the request of a person whose driving licence was issued in one of the following countries:

  • EU Member State;
  • Iceland;
  • Liechtenstein;
  • Norway.
